in Britain, trance has already had the position of being the most popular music of its time.
This was back in 1999, where all the classics you know today were successful in the mainstream UK sales chart. Everyone knew who binary finary, gouryella, system F and Ferry Corsten were. Mainly due to 1999 (+ remixes) Out of the Blue, Cry and the remix of Adagio for Strings.
will that time come again...i don't think so. |

personally I think Trance will become more popular in the US...
mostly because MTV has run out of genres to rape.. :p |

Trance will never become mainstream enough to surpass pop music. The lack of vocals on a lot of trance songs automatically disqualify those songs from radio airplay. Even though Children and Sandstorm managed to make radio airplay, these were the few exceptions. Mainstream radio requires catchy vocal tunes - something that the sheep, I mean people, can sing along to.
With the large number of blacks in the U.S., hip-hop/urban music will always be at the forefront of the music industry there. Even though there are fewer blacks in Canada, the U.S. will always have a huge influence on the music trends here due to their close proximity to us and the constant exposure of American content in the Canadian media.
It would take a blockbuster movie with a trance soundtrack to make it mainstream, if only for a year. |

When you discover how many other genres of electronic music there are that aren't remotely as popular as trance, you'll realise what a narrow-minded statement that is.
Trust a UKTA to put some proper perspective into this thread... thank you DJ MDMA. Trance was very popular in the 1998-2001 period, it was all over the radio, all over the TV and all over the charts. Now it's dying.
You Americans really don't have a clue, sometimes. |

So true, but everyone starts somewhere. :D
I say 80% of TA's who like trance will move to other genres of edm within 2 years. It's normal. It happens to everyone :D |

Trance wont become as popular as it was in 1999-2000 simply becuase as some have said its not commercially accessable now. Even Tiesto isnt the "pop star" he set himself out to become a year ago.
The early records were so new and innovate and now trance has plateud as a style of music (like all music tends to) and we get a lot of mediocre records. Too much quantity not enuf quality. Tbh i never likes the 1999 supposid "golden era" of trance. I luved the 2002-2003 era where more defined and deeper sound were becoming popular in trance as the "pop" trance faded away.
Trance will never become popular among most EDM fans and clubbers again either. Its simply not "cool" among the older clubbing fraternity just now. You hear a lot of "oh you will grow out of trance soon", you will "get it out of your system". I went through the whole 99 era and i luv it more than i ever did but a lot of people i used to know have moved onto techno or prog or whatever.
Im comfortable with the state of things right now. The best partys are the more underground and initmate nites imo. The days of Gatecrasher being totally sold out week after week are dead. Says it all in the UK at least.
However when you go to mostly any dance music festival the biggest and best arenas are always the trance arenas. So in a lot of ways its still going strong but trance does get a very bad rap from people who are into other genres. These people seem to wish and apprently forsee the death of trance. It can all get avery petty imo. |

I disagree. Some of the better tracks being produced today can be found in our Amateur Producer's forum for free. :)
The better tracks, musically, come from those whose emphasis is on the music and not on the money. |
