BTW - Georegy the USA does recongize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and has plans to move the embassy to their (actually since 1995).
I believe there are about 3-5 countries who have their embassy in Jerusalem, but I don't remember who they are. Google will let you know I'm sure. |

4 Embassies in Jerusalem. Article was dated 2000. There might be more in 2005. But its basically like I said, a small number. 2 in Jerusalem 'proper', 2 in the suburbs. All Latin American.
Then again, I don't know how many embassies there are in total in Israel... |

Apparently America passed an act recognising Israeli soveriegnty over Jerusalem in 2002 (link) but I guess thats not important now I know Costa Rica recognises it too!
(Also, do these countries recognise all the city or just the West? In fact does Israel even claim the East? I know Israel want the PA to have its capital in al-Quds which is cheating slightly but do they claim the East of the city for themselves?) |

Indeed, Costa Rica is defintely a rising power. Many speculate it will overcome US dominance in the next decade alone :p
Oh and Congress passed an act declaring that the President must move the Embassy to Jerusalem in 1995 unless he exercises a "security option" - which incidently all Presidents have since then. What can I say, guess that part of the world an't stable enough for em ;)
The cool part was that if the President did not move the embassy and did not exercise the "security risk" option Congress would cut the State Department's budget by 50%. Now that I would like to see!!! :)

I'm assuming they recongize all Israel's claims. But I don't know officially what they say or why they would say it.

Ya, Israel annexed East Jerusalem in 1980s. It also annexed the Golan Heights (no embassies there!). Many believe that had it annexed Gaza and the West Bank at that time most the problems we know as the 'peace process' would have not existed. |
