Minus the mortgage thing for me, you hit the nail on the head.
What's not to like about a grown-up job?
- The grown-up salary;
- Fancy grown-up business cards;
- The grown-up car, house/apartment, etc.;
- Getting to completely turn your brain off the minute you step out of your office;
- Always having a grown-up excuse (I have to work late/early/in my sleep);
- The grown-up sense of self worth, that you're actually doing something that matters in the world rather than slopping together worthless papers and reports for pompous academics (note: this does not apply to government employees);
- Grown-up benefits that allow you, for example, to get a lifesaving operation done in another country rather than dying here on the 14-month waiting list
Hmm, given the choice between paying someone ELSE to work for them on my OWN time, and having THEM pay ME to work on THEIR time, I'd gladly accept the latter, no matter how ty the work got. If it wasn't for the taxes, car payments, insurance payments, credit card bills, utility bills, cable bills, phone bills, and stuff I'd rather not even think about yet (like supporting kids sometime in the future), it would be pretty much perfect.
It's hard to believe that people actually find something to complain about with low-responsibility jobs where they get to surf the 'net all day, followed by an easy term with a bunch of Liberal Arts bird courses. Those who use their summer money to pay the tuition, I can forgive, but that applies only to a small minority - the rest are going to get RAPED by life when they graduate. There's a real world out there, guys! |
