Oh and Irishgyal...I know you're thankful, hun!! I just felt that you took a slight defensive on b4k-oz's words when maybe she wasn't being THAT offensive, although yeah, it could be seen as slightly presumptuous to tell us to be thankful but I know Pat and she never means any harm (unless you harm her I guess...:nervous: )
Anyway I shut up before you kick my ass...*fears rugby-playing girls* |
No worries Fahad. I figured we were on the same page in the first place. And I had the pleasure of meeting b4k-oz at Tiesto and I know she's a very kind person :). I suppose my need to be assertive comes off sounding a bit accusatory at times but that isn't the intention. To clarify anyways, my issue was not about telling us to be 'thankful' but rather 'complaining about mundane things at work when looking at the bigger picture' (paraphased). The thread was started in good fun to possibly get some entertaining stories from some TOTAs on a particularly DULL day at work (because we ALL have them) and was in no way a general disrespect towards those less fortunate in circumstance. I just felt my comment was taken out of context, that's all.
Oh, and for the record - I play hockey, not rugby. ;) |

Dayum. I hate it when you start jokingly and you end up having to explain yourself seriously. Those threads SUCK! :p
And my bad on the bad memory...I remember you telling me that you played SOMETHING (and it was like a violent sport) at Tiesto when we were talking about handling all the people bashing through...I fear hockey players even more!!! :nervous: |

OK, let me reiterate myself....one should always strive to better themselves....and yes life can be mundane...but dahem...let's all be happy and grateful...and let's all smile and give each other group hugz :D
LOL guys...I only posted what I did cuz I read some things and was worried some TA's might decide to reflect on thier life and get all yukky and depressed cuz they aren't happy at either real work or school. Was never trying to be presumptios  <<<- ikid ijustkid :)
And...LMAO Fahad....even when ppl harm me...I'm not the type to harm back...but I have been known to answer back a few time bc I prefer to help a TA peep reflect on what they've posted and if they should maybe ease-off on the harshness of their words....don't you know that it's bad karma to harm or even think of harming others.
Newayz...I can't harm any1....cuz I'm the TOTA 1st Dan (pm me if you don't know what that is hehehehe)
Now..........watch it you :toothless
Don't go puttin words in my mouth. But if you choose to threw me money for my wisdom....I will gladly take them coins (pssst...I prefer big bills) :p |

I believe that is called a "false sense of security". And many (probably most) students have that. Except for engineering students, who have no sense of security, because they go through every minute of their academic lives wondering whether or not they'll get buried alive in problem sets before they have time to fail their final exams.
Universities are supposed to prepare people for the real world - once upon a time that's what they did - but here and now they only shelter people from it. And that inevitably leads to a lot of confusion when that shelter is gone. That's not a knock against any of the students here - I served my time there too, but once I hit 2nd year I knew that it was all just an elaborate charade in order to get a piece of paper. It's having to make our OWN ways in life that gives us that direction, that certainty and that REAL sense of security (the kind that isn't instantly deflated by trifling problems like Friends getting pre-empted by Pro Golf, or MSN going down for 3 hours).
Survival, procreation, and personal relationships have been the driving force of the human race for thousands of years. Why fear the same freedom (and responsibility) that brought us this far to begin with? |

Some of the mundane moments in life are the happiest. :D The theory that "no news is good news". ;)

What I did, after some major job burnout, is I took a look at what I did for fun and made that into a career.
Now I love going to work, sometime even more than staying home. It's a great feeling. I'm not rich but I'm happy. |

Take a hobby and figure out how to make money
...although it did take 2 years of begging and working for dick (not taking dick:nervous: ) but being really poor for a little while. I wouldn't recommend doing that if you have a girlfriend you wish to keep LOL |
