Yes, you've read the post right.... STATE OF MATTER. Times have definately changed, I would be surprised if many people recognized his name. Anyways, I decided to do a remix of his very popular "sapphire storm" which was written in november of 2003, and in my opinion, the best melody he's ever written to date. (do a search, you can find his old threads)
He's currently working on revamping the original and hopefully, we'll send it out. (yes, he's been producing, but I'll let HIM update you) ;)
Anyways, onto the track. It's anthem trance, a style I really don't normally do, but it doesn't hurt to try new things. Epic lead and some mangled breakbeats. SoM was kind enough to host it for me:

i like the beat... it sounds original... especially with the snare... doesn't sound like a typical trance clap and it's a very good punchy sound not a muddy overly wet in reverb clap.
my only complaint is that the lead could use a more tenser buildup... bring the music to a big crawl and explode with the lead..
good breakbeat section..
i can't say I really like the lead melody.. that type of arp is overused in trance... kind of reminds me of the old Solange - Messages (4am trance mix) |

I love that beepy-sonar thing that plays on the snares. Intro sounded nice, full and energetic. Very nice work overall.
Any way I could get the full version? |

damn gangsta, you work fast.
sounds very nice. i like the sine on 2/4 and all percussion is good. bass is good. i'm not really diggin the lead, it just feels a little to...um....'round' i guess is the word maybe? words are hard.
i like what you tried to do with the vocal, but that sample is a little too funky when you get lower. oooh hawt distorted as pads. this is definitely anthemy for you, but i like it.
waiting for breaks......oh snap. i'd hafta say this is half way my favorite breaks section of yours and half way my least favorite. the filtering you worked in makes me wet, but some of the parts are just too disjointed and they make baby jesus cry, like at 3:50.
but damn, you make purty m00sik.
look for new Orana Project (Ethereal & I) droppin soooooon bitches. HOLLA.

this is very very good indeed.. gorgeous sounds and melodies. lovely breaks section as well, reminds me a bit of Haak. it makes the track stand out from regular uplifters.
my only complaint is that the lead sounds a bit harsch/agressive in comparison to the other elements, which are mostly warm and smooth. but that's just a minor detail. great stuff overall! |

I agree about the lead, there's some distortion on it which isn't too good either. Break is wicked, but IMO a tad (way) too many edits for a trance track. Still cool tho, really. Nice melody. Mastering makes it sound just too wet.
Very good track, good luck releasing. |

wow you guys are prompt with responding, thanks for the constructive feedback!
gerry: the lead is oldschool, no doubt, saw arps aren't really the new modern thing to do with trance which is why i felt this was really new territory for my productions. The arp is definately overused, i agree, but it will never die, it gives trance that classic anthem sound. some people like, some don't. I will work on a better build up coming out of the breakdown.
aquarian: PM me if you're a DJ
tyler: thanks. when you say "lead" do you mean the saw arp or the plucked melody?? I've noticed th vocal sample goes out of tune on certain parts... that's a problem with the autotune that i already know how to fix, but was too lazy to reexport, edit, and master, haha... i'll fix that before posting an update. also, finish the damn track, man!
the breaks section i will fix, as i feared, i got a little too excited, hah.
luke: though i'm not remotely black, thanks.
jay m: wet?? do you mean excessive fx (delay/reverb) on synths?
any one else wanna peep this? |

| My... what an arper this sucker is. I'm loving the supersaw after the breakdown. And the breakbeat was good, but that usually means that the track is leading to something very good. |

yeah i like this one. the intro is great with that background sonar melody great sounding square sounds too . the fx are all spot on too that breaks is something i've never tried in my tracks might be a bit overly complex to work on a dance floor.
the lead i didnt think much of thou. when i hear arps like that now i just get bored too tears and stop dancing. but as you said it is a tradition, i just wish it was a tradition that would die. :)
good work man should have no problems getting signed ;) |
