I was wondering...
Check this classic set by Sasha:
Sasha 30-05-99
Force Mass Motion - Lost (In Time)
Z2 - I Want You
Shawshank - Spike
Sander Kleinenberg - Sacred
Space Manouvres - Stage One
Antic - Pulse
Andy Ling - Fixation
New Idols - Tears
Natious - Amber
What are nowadays, the producers yet producing this type of progressive trance?
I think these tracks are so original and the progressive played today is nothing compared to these tracks played by Sasha e Digs in 99/2000.
Is this genre dead?
Example: If u check the recent releases by force mass motion, u ll hear a totally diferent sound, the same for the quivver (space manouvres) productions.

| I'd say it's pretty much dead, and it's a shame. Can't get enough of that sound, when it's just a bit techy, but not really. Nowadays it's all about that twinkly Schulz stuff. |

I'm still listening to and spinning a similar kind of progressive (though be it maybe a bit housier than the tracks you mentioned) every now and then, it's a sound I can't get enough of, as opposed to todays progressive unfortunately.
Check this thread for quite a few good recommendations in this particular style.
Tough to obtain some of the monster tunes from that period on 12", though. |

Ory: totally agreed, I like some tunes schulz/armin spin but most stuff is the same 4 minutes intro, 1 minute of a nonsense-novibe-no-feeling breakdown, and 4 minutes of end to "fill" minutes...
example: 90% of "couldharbour reconstructions".
:D
basd: thanks, im reading that thread, good music there...

| i'd say its very rare to come across tunes as quality in this genre these days...every once in a while you get lucky. see the way i view the whole electro house thing that sasha and others have been doing...i kinda feel like its a branch out of this older style because it brings back the same innovations, but its a little different.... |

| i think the sound went away when they stopped the northern exposure series. |

see i like these artists, but their style i don't really see as similar because its not as aggressive. i liked the old prog house sound because it was so banging...lots of great tunes...upbeat...of course there are still tracks like that out there, but they come from mostly more obscure artists and you really have to search them out.
what i've noticed the last couple of weeks is that 2003 has a lot of this kinda old school prog house sound...you just have to search them out and enjoy :p |

They're much housier. What Sasha played was essentially trance, but with small house influences, and it wasn't as epic as something Tiesto/Ferry would play back then. |

Another one living in the past!
Get over it people it's 2005.
In 2010 are we all going to still be talking about '99?
Well there was 1969 that everybody still talks about. I guess history repeats itself. |

There is stuff being made that is just as good if not better than the stuff Sasha & diggers were playing back in the day. For example here is a TL from CD 1 of Northern Exposure Expeditions with comments about tunes or artists that are similar.
1. Tyrantanic - Breeder....if you like that old Breeder sound, check the new productions like Mathew Dekay- Bad, or David West
2. Space Manoeuvres - Stage One....Tilt and Andy Moor still makes alot of sounds that are like the old Space Manuevres.
3. Morning Glory - Union Jack .......This is Ozgur Can's sound to a tee!
4. Lost Without You - Jayn Hanna......This track was done by Markus Schulz back in the day, you can hear how much he has progressed.
5. Expand The Room - the Light....Grey Area, Burufunk all make tunes like this.
6. Belfunk - Sasha David West best compares to this side of Sasha back in the day.
7. Know You Love Me Too - Chris Raven....Sounds like Santiago Nino to m, also some of the new Max Graham sidechain stuff like Automatic Weapon.
8. Micromega - Blue Planet Corporation....sounds like a million prog tunes.
9. Free - Mono Culture love this tune, has some Gabriel & Dresden/Nalin & Kane feel to it.
The scene is not as bad of shape as the elitists claim. |
