My god. Listen to Schulz all you want, but it sounds nothing like what progressive trance was like from 97 to 99. The synths used by todays "progressive" artists are much weaker sounding, not to mention the basslines and drumwork which have more to do with progressive house than with trance. |

There is stuff being made that is just as good if not better than the stuff Sasha & diggers were playing back in the day. For example here is a TL from CD 1 of Northern Exposure Expeditions with comments about tunes or artists that are similar.
1. Tyrantanic - Breeder....if you like that old Breeder sound, check the new productions like Mathew Dekay- Bad, or David West
2. Space Manoeuvres - Stage One....Tilt and Andy Moor still makes alot of sounds that are like the old Space Manuevres.
3. Morning Glory - Union Jack .......This is Ozgur Can's sound to a tee!
4. Lost Without You - Jayn Hanna......This track was done by Markus Schulz back in the day, you can hear how much he has progressed.
5. Expand The Room - the Light....Grey Area, Burufunk all make tunes like this.
6. Belfunk - Sasha David West best compares to this side of Sasha back in the day.
7. Know You Love Me Too - Chris Raven....Sounds like Santiago Nino to m, also some of the new Max Graham sidechain stuff like Automatic Weapon.
8. Micromega - Blue Planet Corporation....sounds like a million prog tunes.
9. Free - Mono Culture love this tune, has some Gabriel & Dresden/Nalin & Kane feel to it.
The scene is not as bad of shape as the elitists claim. |
actually i don't know what you talking about because those artists you mentioned doesn't sound at all like those sasha tracks back in the day and i think Ozgur Khan sounds zillion of years from Union Jacks productions. |

There, it makes more sense now. And Markus only remixed this tune with CL McSpadden as Edge Factor. |

that was the biggest pile of nonsense ive read in a single post. The difference between Breeders sound and David Wests sound is huuuuge. I doubt youve heard Breeder. |

In my opinion, it's very alive you just have to filter out all the garbage yourself. Also, more or less here are some songs from this year or last year's that are worth checking out. They are examples of the progressive genre, whether house or trance.
Hammer & Bennett - Language (santiago nino dub tech mix)
Jose Amnesia Presents Tiffany - Heaven Drops
Elevation - Largo
Audioholics - External Key
Flash Brothers - Amen
Solar Stone - Day By Day (red jerry dub mix)
Benz & MD - Still Rain |

I was referring to that track in particular you ass-munch. This song is alot more melodic than Breeders other tracks. Twilo Thunder and The Chain are alot more hard than this track. When I listen to Tyrantanic and try to compare someone today who has the same layers and depth in their production, one of the artists I think of is David West. |

Good list, Also people dont seem to remember, most of the music on the Northern Exposure CDs were tunes that had been released way before the Sasha and Digweed picked them up for their compilations. If a popular DJ made a CD with some tunes as old as 2 years on a CD today, it would not go over well with fans like it did in the Northern Exposure days. |

aside from the 'mcprog' stuff there are still a few good prog trance tracks that are coming out... for example that new record on little mountain recordings- Max Grahm- she doesn't know is f'n slamming IMO.
that lucas and beltran record 'trust me' or something like that is really good too.
they're few and far apart though i must agree... you're better off with the nice dark stuff. |
