I am actually amazed at what progressive is popular and what isn't. There are a few artists out there, who I see as some of the most talented producers today.
Alex Stealthy
Habersham
In my opinion, Gabriel and Dresden deserve the popularity they recieve. However, I know some would disagree. I do see progressive as a very wattered down genre, unforunately. I say, unfortunately because if you listen to tracks by the likes of Stealthy, Habersham, Nathan Fake, you can see how original and at times emotionally driving progressive can be.
I think the watered down progressive sound that seems to surface more often than I would like to see is comprised of interesting sounds, but the structure of the song is never driving, it never goes anywhere. While, Ozgur Can has produced some great tunes, he has also mastered this sound it would seem. James Holden, another great producer is guilty of this from time to time. I believe part of the problem is the popular producers are producing far too many tracks. I see progressive as the genre that will continue to evolve, continue to expirement. I think it is a very fluid genre in that sense and for that reason it should have more respect than it recieves. To me, trance really hasn't evolved in the way progressive has. Regardless of wether or not you like the "new" progressive sound, you have to admit that is continuely evolving. I do not know if I can say the same about trance. |

People who actually believe the sound of '99 Sasha is like progressive house of today, much less its ter Miami cousin, don't know what they're talking about.
Actual argument of points to come when I've recovered from the workweek. But that's the gist of it, really.
Once again, for those confused: McProg != Progressive Trance. |

In my opinion, it's very alive you just have to filter out all the garbage yourself. Also, more or less here are some songs from this year or last year's that are worth checking out. They are examples of the progressive genre, whether house or trance.
Hammer & Bennett - Language (santiago nino dub tech mix)
Jose Amnesia Presents Tiffany - Heaven Drops
Elevation - Largo
Audioholics - External Key
Flash Brothers - Amen
Solar Stone - Day By Day (red jerry dub mix)
Benz & MD - Still Rain |
that solar stone tune is from 96 or 97 |

I was referring to that track in particular you ass-munch. This song is alot more melodic than Breeders other tracks. Twilo Thunder and The Chain are alot more hard than this track. When I listen to Tyrantanic and try to compare someone today who has the same layers and depth in their production, one of the artists I think of is David West. |
most of the tracks you compared got nothing or very little in common you stupid idiot. |

I agree with you completely, todays progg i don't think have nothing in common with the progg from the nineties. I don't what you guys thinking that Ozgur Khan, Grayarena etc. have the same sound as back then.
And my personal opinion the producers of proggtrance today lack any creativity whatsoever and in my ears they all sound . The progg today are so dull it makes me fell asleep as soon as i hear it. |

| i dont think that mcprog and progressive trance is the same. i think your saying that b.c of a lot of the crap that schulz and armin spins which falls under the genre of progressive trance. therefore everyone defines that music as progressive trance, but in my opinion that isnt even true progressive at all. |

I was reading the thread and, well...
I think I'll start call the schulz/armin prog of "minimal trance", their tunes are not banging and driving like 99 prog. and lost their "techish" part...
The sounds are totally diferent"!
by the way:
mcprog = minimal trance...
humm...
:wtf: |

| Do people even read other's posts. I tried to answer some of the questions that are still being raised and only got the same questions after I spent the time posting. Instead of reiterating what's been said 1,000 times on this post, try actually reading them all and then think about what you want to say. |

Check this classic set by Sasha:
Sasha 30-05-99
Force Mass Motion - Lost (In Time)
Z2 - I Want You
Shawshank - Spike
Sander Kleinenberg - Sacred
Space Manouvres - Stage One
Antic - Pulse
Andy Ling - Fixation
New Idols - Tears
Natious - Amber
What are nowadays, the producers yet producing this type of progressive trance?
I think these tracks are so original and the progressive played today is nothing compared to these tracks played by Sasha e Digs in 99/2000.
Is this genre dead?
Example: If u check the recent releases by force mass motion, u ll hear a totally diferent sound, the same for the quivver (space manouvres) productions.
