Miami - Get Ready For a New Dance/Trance Radio Station. (pg. 7)

I know not everything appeals to everyone, but dance music isn't hiphop. Not everyone in Miami has heard how dance music can be something cool, and something that's not saccharine (for little girls only). Yes, have some cheese on the station, but in this day of age, dance radios need to be playing more of what's not-so-cheesey, and showing the general public this music isn't the lame background music on DDR games, and is a progressive, legitimate artform. Each dance station seems to be sending out a message about the music they're playing, providing what soundformat they play.
Also, I know this station is new, and probably doesn't have the time and money for DJs yet, but I'd advice they do get some. That's what makes radio more interesting to listen to, knowing there's a radio DJ live talking to their audience, taking calls, playing games, hosting competitions ect. Party 931's lack of talking radio DJs, made it a boring station to listen to... it would only be good for 3 songs, and that's it, time to change the station.
Also knowing this is power96, I hope they don't take the radio DJs overboard, and have annoying tarts like Lucy Lopez, who aren't even black and ghetto, pretending to be. Who knows they might have some guy with a queer fag voice, because they think dance music is a bunch of fag music.
My hope is that the radio DJs have a neutral voice, like those of y-100, and make the station more pleasurable to listen to. |

Not just that, But, They need to get real DJs, Not DJs who play lots of comercial crap, One of my biggest beefs about Party 93.1 was the DJs they had spinning durring certain nights in some of the venues, They forced them to play all the comercial dance crap you heard durring the day, But at night, Its unbearable, Remember those DJs like Erik Velez, Or Rual Rock The House, They play some of the worst cheese ever. |

I run a series of electronica radio programs on WREK, Atlanta 91.1 FM and I appreciate all of these opinions. Unfortunately our current 40 kWatt signal does not reach to Miami ;).
However, thanks to Element Radio (www.elementradio.com), we now offer "A State of Trance" with Armin Van Buuren and "Release Yourself" by Roger Sanchez. Those programs air Thursday night at midnight.
Another program called EDM Sound System runs Saturday night at 10PM which I host and focuses on a different LOCAL DJ each week. I literally go to venues and collect demo CDs from potential show guests. Each guest is given two hours of commercial free airtime and is interviewed durring the show. Stream it sometime and let me know what you think. I actually recently aired a set from a Pensacola DJ who sent me his mix and we did a telephone interview over it. (www.edmsoundsystem.com)
I think you all should petition a non-commercial radio organization in Miami to do the same. There is no baseline so there is room for risk, and therefore, programming you want to hear.
PS: We also just co-hosted an event called Dance4Relief (www.dance4relief.org) and flew in Suzy Solar (Miami) to perform here in Atlanta. The event gathered many local DJs and promoters from the area to network and raise money for charity. |

yeah that's a college station tho.. there are college stations here that play EDM shows too (so it's nothing new or groundbreaking).. example FIU's 88.1fm and UM's 90.5
We need a real station that plays good EDM all the time.
and 40k watt is pretty weak (and typical for a college station) and probably only covers most of the city of Atlanta, but not the entire county. Most likely your signal also broadcasts in mono, like most college radios do. |

You may be mistaken. I didn't say 40 Watts, I said 40,000 Watts, which will reach about 40 miles omni-directional from the center of Atlanta (Covering a populous of about 4.1 million people). We are also broadcasting in stereo, with a 24k/128k stream online, archiving for seven days.
"College radio" doesn't mean "low quality radio". But regardless, if you are truly interested in this project, a quality non-commercial org is probably your best bet. So stop bitchin and do something about it ;).
Asking for a station with 24/7 electronica programing is not really economically feasible. Especially a commercial station, which will ALWAYS sell out to the most terrible (and mass-appealing) programming possible.
Good luck, |

I didn't say 40 watts... I said 40k which the k implies a thousand. That's good that you are broadcasting in stereo, you're ahead of most college stations. I think 88.1 does mono, and 90.5 stereo, but the quality is not as good as mainstream stations.
"College Radio" is mostly "low-quality radio" depending on the skill and equipment running varies (but usally the quality is crap compared to pro radio)... Your show may be quality, but some other guy's show may sound like because he doesn't know how to operate the radio equipment well, so the sound can be EQed harshly, overcompressed, or distorted. Even though 88.1 plays some banging tunes, the kids operating sound like they don't know what they're doing, and the signal always comes out sounding harsh and unpleasurable. Also most radio DJs on college radios have the boringest droning voices ever, and there's dead silences that last up to 2 minutes.
The reason I post this is because there are college radios everywhere, and you're making your show out to be the only alternative. There are EDM shows in all college stations, some better than others. I'm not dissing your show or anything. It's that sometimes the attitude in the way you advertise your show is intentionally trying to make all people who don't live in Atlanta feel like because we don't have "a cool ass EDM show" like you guys do. |
