I'd like to thank maria for showing me this interview,
I translated it and had it checked and fixed by
a Greek friend of mine.
It explains a lot about Shivers and ASOT.
Enjoy

Interview with Armin van Buuren @ The Venue Club

A name that we all know well and love.
He once again came to our country and the e-dJs.gr was again there.
This time he had a lot to tell us. Let’s See....

Interview: Mpoyge'sis Nikos (mist) Kavaljera'tos Yannis (Ian) e-dJs.gr:
Hello armin once again!!
I imagine that we dont have a lot of things to say about,
besides the release of your new album . Do we?

Armin van Buuren:
No you are wrong!
We have alot of things to say since plenty of things have happened.

e-dJs.gr:
Nice. We want the news.
You are the only one DJ that we have interviewed
for the magazine three times so far.

Armin van Buuren:
Ahu? Yeah, I love Greece!
It's a beautiful country. There are a lot of joyful people here,
although sometimes it’s hard to get to see this.
I like the food the sun the beaches all is wonderful.
Sometimes I am thinking to move here in Greece,
I really like the place here and I really want to come here when I’m able to.

e-dJs.gr:
The last time you didn’t tell us a thing about your new album.
Now I want you to tell us everything about it.

Armin van Buuren:
It will be released on 8th of august in Holland and worldwide in 23 countries.
Not all in the same date.
In UK it will come out on the 23rd of august, same as in USA.
The list of countries is really big and I'm sure I will have a mad summertime.

e-dJs.gr:
What Do You expect of the release of your new CD ?

Armin van Buuren:
I do not expect anything to tell you the truth.
As we say and in Holland "I feel that I made an egg".
It's not a good translation for other languages but
explains what I want to say. I wanted to go little further as Armin.
You can always make a remix of a song but you can not make a song from a remix.
For this reason I wanted to fill the album with songs and lyrics.
Shivers is a journey in all styles of music.
There's breakbeats, downtempo, trance, house and even a ballad.
I wanted to make something that would be my own,
not something that my fans were waiting for.
Today it is very easy to make a trance track. The equipment as Reason,
Ableton, Logic and CuBase is all that's needed and everyone can get.
Five years ago from all the demos that I received only a few barely worth.
Now even a 13 year old can do a remix that it'll sound ok.
In the old days in order for you to make a track you needed a synth,
a mixer, a sampler, PC and in general you needed to use slide switches,
to push buttons... all in order so you'd make a good track.
For example, in order for you to make a trance track you need delay,
one large reverb... now it is easier because all you need is
in the software that you can buy in a shop.
What is not easy, and many that make Trance tracks forget,
Is this. In order to make trance tracks they should be made
so that the people like the outcome.
I play many tracks and I find a lot which I like, but I do not
believe that they are tracks that will be around in five years.
In order to make something like that you should have enough "guts".
This I believe is achieved if you give in a album more human character,
as it is the song.
For this reason I collaborated with so many singers in order
come out with the best possible result. It was wonderful and also I believe that
I have reached a higher level in which I can be a writer/composer.
I used to be a producer and now I approach the tracks as a writer/composer.

e-dJs.gr: Do you like this your new role?

Armin van Buuren:
It is something different and it is a big risk.
The Album is something you will listen at your home
and not play in the clubs, but there will be also releases of dance remixes
for most of the tracks.
Therefore in the end it will be considered as a trance album anyway.

e-dJs.gr:
The Trance therefore you believe, has gone bad?

Armin van Buuren:
No, trance is still good. There are many good trance
tracks, but not so many are so good that will give me a hinch.
The New Rank 1 I believe that it is a terrific track and keeps
the dance scene alive. Tracks like this are beautiful but have
a sound that we have heard a few years ago.
The trance music evolves and with my new CD I want to make
a statement, to show that's where I believe music needs to go,
with these tracks. Now I don't speak only about love,
but also about various subjects. There are songs about psychopaths,
about a woman that owns everything she is to a rich man,
an artist that 'loses his inspiration'. Stuff like that.

e-dJs.gr:
The lyrics for your songs were all composed by you?

Armin van Buuren:
Not all but most of them. A song that I had written has as a subject
that we, the men can become huge hypocrites.
A lot of girls like men that are situated, good looking, and have
a lot of money. We accept this fact even if we know that all they want
from us is our money and for that alone all we want from them is sex (laughters!).
This song is going to be called Goldigger.
There are real life events behind each song.
This Album is completely different from my first album.
With songs like Shivers a completely new era begins for me.

e-dJs.gr:
In the previous interview, you told us that your radio show,
"A State Of Trance", would be also transmitted in Greece
via a Greek radio television station.
Cuuld you tell us what happened. ‘cause we have not heard a thing about it.

Armin van Buuren:
I hardly had a briefing. The problem they have is the money.
Always it's about the money. I do not receive any money from show -and I do not
want to receive money from this. What interests me is to be heard
in as many as possible countries around the world.
Many people forget that the youth of today that are now 15 - 16 years old
are the future clubbers and not these who dance in the clubs at this moment .
These who party now will be in a few years with their family
in the warmth of their house, (laughters).
For me the radio is very important because the 16 year old kids can not go
in clubs, they want to keep listening to music and learn about the new tracks.
With the radio you prepare them for what they will listen in
two years in clubs, when they will be able to go on their own.
Therefore I found a company that is called " The Radio Department"
which tries to distribute my show. The problem is that shows like this
costs a certain amount of money and in order for it to become
(i repeat that I do not get any money from this) distributed,
the radio stations want to play my show on air but they do not want to pay
because they promote us. They are right to an extent but also
we need a certain amount of money for the distribution.
Therefore the thing always breaks down there.
We are now however searching for a sponsor in order to help us
and make the show to become free for all.

e-dJs.gr:
Which station was going to play your show in Greece?

Armin van Buuren:
I do not know. You should ask "The Radio Department".

e-dJs.gr:
In Greece the radio goes from the bad to the worse.
For this reason we waited for your show impatiently.

Armin van Buuren:
Yes everywhere it's like this. It's great that the internet exists.
At this moment the internet saves the music. Naturally it is not good
for the intellectual rights and for the companies, but I would not
be sitting here on sofa and drink champagne and speak to you without it.
I am famous because the world can find and hear my show
on the internet. Legal or illegal it does not matter.
People in the N. Africa, in Australia, in Greece, in Romania
can listen my music. This is really something amazing!
I am just the thing that connects the companies and the producers
of tracks with the public. I am not superstar I just choose to
give the world the music that they probably cannot find easily.
I connect... that’s what I do... this is that makes a DJ.
In order for you to learn the world of music you need the radio.
All the radios play these ten tracks again and again, this is has to do with
advertising and money.
The people that listen to radio aren't in the loop, because they
don't learn new stuff of it. It doesn’t educate the public anymore.
But people are more intelligent than some believe.

e-dJs.gr:
We wait for your show with impatience so that
our radio gets some improvement in general.

Armin van Buuren:
This is precisely why I make it.
In order you to come the next time and tell me that you listen to my show.
Then I will be absolutely happy. I work hard and I want it to be great.

e-dJs.gr:
We will wait for developments. Unfortunately you do not have much
free time left even though we have a lot more questions for you
and things to learn from You.
You also need to share your music knowledge to us tonight (laughters).
We want to thank you for this exclusive interview and wish you a great gig.
And be sure we will speak again soon.

Armin van Buuren:
Thank you, It was my pleasure we had this chat, I am glad to see you
once again and be sure I will be waiting for you here also the next time.
I hope to accomplish to entertain you tonight.

i prefer more objective reviews. straightforward questions and not just "we love your show, when will we see it?" etc etc.

its not a science report mate.
do not fear, poo is here.

1st of all it's an interview, and not a review.
2nd of all wether I am a fanboy or not has nothing to do with the post, ask any Greek person and they'll confirm the translation is correct. Same goes for the interviewers although I can't speak on their behalf.
And 3rd straight forward questions were asked, if you don't see it, too bad.

Years of experience makes 'em wise when it comes to production.
IInteresting interview. Yet another thing to announce to my greek friend, also, now I can enjoy trips to Greece even more, I guess.
I'm happy for the people in Greece, and I wish Sweden could get more of a local radio with trance. But that can wait.

Oh btw, wtf is wrong with all the Swedish people on this site?
Rebel9 is weird, and that other guy that "has no friends on TA" is also a wacko.
Am I the only swede that is completely normal?
