Everyone has a bloody WRX or STI.
Not anywhere near as many Evos around.
Thats reason in itself. |

Holden Monaro or Commodore owns both of them anyday :D

Subaru as a company outmatch Mitsubishi by far. Their staple AWD vehicles are a class act. Mitsu only released 1 AWD vehicle (EVO) which is a pawn from the Lancer. Now if you were to compare class to class, the WRX clearly owns the Lancer (keep in mind these are base model vehicles when comparing the evo and sti). Subaru has been in the rally world longer than most. Granted the power output and preformance of the Evo is pretty jaw dropping, however, there are many unknowns about the car that most people don't know about.
The warranty is pretty specific and it's real easy to void on the Evo, not the case with the STi. For example, if you smoke the clutch on a launch, you are potentially voiding your warranty on the transmission. What person who has a vehicle of such power will not have the urge to drop the clutch at 5K rpm atleast ONCE within it's ownership? Now if you are buying a vehicle of this caliber, you definitely have had this in mind. I wouldn't recommend either car (evo or STi) if you were a first time manual driver, not the greatest cars to learn on. Now smoking the clutch on a launch with an STi does not necessarily void your warranty on the tranny. Subaru has an exceptional guarantee in which a rebuild is under warranty but parts are not. Now if I had to choose my gear ratios and a tranny rebuild is under warranty, honestly, I wouldn't mind smoking the clutch a few times, launching, cuz I'll know that if I burn my tranny, I can choose custom pressure plates and better ratios.
handling? hands down the evo corners better than the STi, the STi is an understeering pig! one way to combat that is to go JDM. JDM meaning your wheel offset is .5 larger upfront than in the back. This will help greatly when going into and coming out of corners.
I've driven both and I say when it comes to handling, the evo takes it hands down, but if you measure power to the wheels and rubber to the pavement in a straight away, I give it to the STi all the way. Both great vehicles, but I've been a Subaru fan since day one, so I guess you can say I'm biased! |
