I Love Getting New Clothes (pg. 7)

I remember back in 7th grade, we thought our math teacher made her clothing out of old curtains and dishrags. That was because she was poor though, not because she was some hippie.
Down with capitalism! Americans are greedy because, upon personal success, they choose to purchase quality items for themselves!
Oh and for the record I buy expensive clothing.
Edit - Linden Flowers: are there people in Canada that purchase Diesel Jeans and Armani tops. If so, is it fair for me to assume that all Canadians have a "ME ME ME" mentality and are all 'corporation whores'? |

UGHH..
i got so tired of reading that guys rants about nice clothing.
its all about preference. if you can and like to buy nicer things, whether it be clothes, furniture or whatever, then by all means..
if you want to spend your money on 5 dollar tshirts, then go ahead.
I like to dress 'trendy' as well. i'm still stuck on abercrombie & fitch and hollister but i see no problem spending a good deal of money on clothes. i'm not paying for a brand name. i'm paying for style and a higher quality product. |

finally ... a good thread to talk about .. .. god! .. :D ..
ok .. this thread got negative real quickly with linden flowers being all negative about america (not one post from him or her .. dont give a f*ck .. about what he or she wears for school anyways, since it is the topic of this thread .. geez .. ) .. and others being all negative about corporate clothing and big labels and sh!t like that ..
i can't really comment on what i wore when i went to high school, because i wore school uniforms .. uniformality and consistency ! woo! .. well not really, because we all tended to show our future gay sides by redesigning our school uniforms to something different ..
anyways .. back to what i was going to say .. (sorry pariah if i am going to go wayyyyy out of the topic of this thread .. ) .. but why do you have to rip on him for wanting to spend money on his clothes ?? .. maybe because he likes to feel comfortable in nice chic clothing styles ? .. the stuff that you buy at wal-mart, target, etc .. are cool and everything, but they're stuff that are considered "start offs" for people that don't have money .. when you are successful (wait .. hold on .. all you guys are in high school, so you don't know what really is the meaning of success .. oh well ... ) .. so when you do get your full time 40 hour a week jobs, hold a decent bank account, have 401k, and learn what the real world is, then you will see that you can't be buying your clothes from wal-mart forever
that goes for you too dj confessions .. geez .. you sound like you have a nice job at a nice place, and yet you glee out in joy how you wear "cheaper" clothes than your collegues ? .. does it make you happy ? .. does it make you think that you are above them, just because you think you know how to "economize" your money by not wearing designer clothes ? .. get a grip man .. give me a good example of a group of people, wearing clothes from wal-mart, eating at a 5 star restaurant where the plates run at average $25 a plate ? ..
and to people who diss the clothing corporations and say that they suck with all their money grubbing commercialism, outsourcing their factories outside the us to gain cheaper expenses, having sweat shops and etc stuff like that ... i say shut the hell up .. they obviously didn't start that way .. of course they have to make money .. it's just genius marketing, and a smart way to get their names advertised out there for people to know what it is, and buy it .. you may not like the way clothes are advertised with all the special logos and stuff, but i say the logos represent the company that makes the clothing .. if you are sooooooo upset how companies try to take people's money by charging people high prices for just a name, then i say you go buy a sewing machine, and create your own clothing line .. |

continuing ......
one pure example is sean combs .. you may know him as diddy, p.diddy, puffy, or puff daddy ... you may hate him for being all commercialistic with his music, clothes, and other material he tries to sell .. but i think this guy is best as a marketer .. i can't really acknowledge his music, because i don't really like his music (too poppy for me .. ) .. however, i admire him for how he sells himself .. and he didn't get to the top quickly .. he worked long and hard behind several successful people back in the late 80s and early 90s, and when biggie died, he felt he can market himself, rather than trying to market someone else ..
when he saw that he can create his own clothing line, he knew how to sell himself to boost his clothing line sales .. and it worked .. you may call it prostituting himself and his image to gullible people that would buy anything, but i call it smart analysis of seeing what the people want to see, and selling his merchandise the right way .. hey .. that is the way advertising and business is .. you got to know what your scruples are, and you have to decide for yourself if it is moral or immoral .. if you think you have to take an action by undercutting someone, and others think it is immoral, i say tough sh!t .. that's the way business is .. some say the business world is rougher and tougher than the ghetto, because businesses can literally steal millions of dollars from others, compared to the ghetto life when gangstars steal a couple of hundred, which is chump change to the CEO .. |

sellout! .. you go with your preppy clothing styles and stuff .. :wtf: .. hahahhaha ...
man i don't know .. i shop everywhere when i go to the mall .. i rarely ever go to the mall, because i don't really need clothing .. i still wear clothing from about 5 years ago .. however, when i do go shopping, i go ballistic .. i usually spend about $400 total all together, and i spend the whole day shopping, because i stop by everywhere ..
i know i am contradicting what i said earlier when i say that 'i don't really look for labels, just the clothing' ... but if i like a $50 abercrombie shirt, i buy it .. if i see a nice pair of $75 pants from macy's or dillard's, i buy it .. i do tend to look for sales now and then, but mostly, i say if it looks nice, then buy it ... however, this philosophy does not hold if you like to go shopping every week .. :wtf: ... |

| When it comes to name brands I am 50/50 about the whole deal. I can't say I wouldn't mind wearing something generic because I would be lying to myself, but as to go as far as buying a 100 dollar shirts is simply foolish. For example, I never buy retail at Banana Republic. Instead I wait for their sales events. The only time I would pay such a ridiculous price is if the design of the clothing is unique, the piece of clothing is the last one in the store, or the benifits exceed the price. For instance, my infatuatoin with Dockers pants! Although they are 50 dollars a pop, I find the price worth it when comparing it to the many times I've washed the pants. After tons of washes the color still hasn't faded. Then and only then would the price justify benefits of the clothing. |
