Djs trying to look like they're doing something

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that a lot of Djs TRY to make it look like they're DOING something....

no offence, but even from my limited experience, i find that about 30-40% of a song, i'm either standing they're enjoying the music, or trying to find cool special effects to throw in (yes, this is once i've matched the pitch on the cued track, and YES, it's AFTER i've found a point I want to bring the cued track in on).....

I've seen a couple of Djs who just stand there in this period, and feel like they have to look like they're doing something. Like, i see one turning knobs or wateva, but she puts all her effort into it, and tries to make it look cool. interestingly, she's not wearing her headphones, so she isn't adjusting the cued track, and I don't notice ANY differnece in what she was playing....

do u guys know what i'm takling about... for Djs out there, what SHOULD i be doing in the "waiting" period.... assuming i'm in front of a crowd...

Tiesto loves to do this.

I hate DJs who do that. Or DJs that exaggerate everything they do behind the decks. They'll turn the EQ knobs, but have to get their whole body into it since you know it takes 30 pounds of pressure to turn the little knobs.

Because of the music I play and my mixing style I hardly have time to just stand there, but when I do I like to dance a little maybe wave a record in the air and get into the groove, but pretending to do something to the music is retarded.

this is acceptable, but only when turning the filter cutoff frequency knob, you also have to pull a really stupid face.

haha yeah the filter face

The answer is simple... cue up another tune ;)

I consider it a personal artistic failure if I'm "doing nothing" at any point in a song other than the breakdown. :tongue2

That's why I'm trying to NOT SUCK at scratching.

well shoot, i just get a drink and relax when im doing house partys.. lol im not gonna pretend to be doing things, well ok i sometimes get a little going and start playing with the mixer, lol.

but really, i just like looking for what i should play next most of the time, i like to take my time finding the perfect track.

When I spin techno, If im not doing something at all, the next mix is going to suck ass.

During a breakdown I try to rise the crowd with a cool Fist Pump  or... Hands in the air  ... It works a whole lot better than just looking around.
