nah man, you just forget that the majority of these people will diss something when they've heard just one song they don't like. Fact is that those who like it are mainly those who were there 10 years ago in some part, and the others don't understand because they didn't experience it growing up as some of us did. Arguing with them is pointless because they don't have any valid points. |

So those of us that have heard if for the past decade and still don't like it are still allowed our opinions, correct? ;) |

A lot of music made 30 years ago still reaches people. Happy Hardcore I wouldn't reach for with a 10 ft. pole. :wtf: |

I can't stand Happy Hardcore. Not only because it is painfull to listen to but also every time HHC is being spun all the giant fuzzy pants and little backpack wearing candi kids crawl out from under their rocks swinging their glow sticks yammering on and on about PLUR and "the community" trying to hug everybody whilst explaining why "we" are better then "normal" people and how all would be right with the world if we could all "just love each other like 'we' do." Damn do I ever hate those kids.... Jesus, off I'm trying to enjoy my buzz here and maybe do a little dancing, I DON'T NEED TO HEAR YOUR UNENLIGHTENED CHILD LIKE PHILOSOPHY FOR A BETTER WORLD!!!! AND NO I DON'T NEED A HUG YOU DIRTY SWEATY MODERN-DAY HIPPY. |

oh, I thought we were talking about music.
about your other points, we don't have any of that in germany...never seen anything close to a "candy raver" and if you asked the hardcore listeners at a party for the meaning of "plur" you'd probably get a wtf?:conf:

of course you are. but it should be a little more specific, maybe. something like: i don't like hhc because it is too hard for me to dance to it...or I don't like distorted bassdrums or whatever your reason is. but "it is painful to listen to it" is utter bullsh1t imo.
Ian made a good point, because ten years ago a lot of tracks played at the Loveparade and/or Mayday would be considered HHC now, back then it was all "techno". there were lots of different styles, ranging from 130-200 bpm all being played at one party. Nobody would have thought of dissing someone who liked the faster tracks better than the slower ones...
so the general hhc-bashing with no reasoning behind it is what I don't understand. |

great post mate. the fact is, kr00t etc who've heard it & disliked it for reasons have valid legitimacy to dislike it, for whatever reasons, the people who say 'oh i dont like the vocals' or 'its ' without hearing any of it are either doing so because it's not the cool style to like, or because they don't understand it at all. There's many sub-genres to hardcore, and a lot of them are very good if given the proper time of day. Sadly most people just bitch without having a proper understanding of it. |

In Canada the candi ravers follow the HHC so even if I were to like HHC I wouldn't be able to stand the scene. The scene and the music are not independent of each other. |

that's where it differs from europe then, you don't get as many people like that involved as DJ Dawn said. Differing circumstances lead it to maybe appeal more or less |

i would probably have a problem with THAT, too...
but then, you should say "I hate candy ravers" and not "I hate HHC", cause you can still listen to the music at home, in your car, with friends... |

That's it ;)
My brother was very much into German hardcore (Ik Vil Hakke, scary ass track, ending with a recording of some dude puking into a toilet), Gabba (which was ok I guess, but I couldn't handle it for extended lengths of time) and the more generic fluffy neverending piano riffs and chipmunk vocals.
To be fair, in terms of bpm, I hit my peak back in 2000 with hard house, topping out at 150bpm, now I dont like stuff above 145bpm, as it tires me both mentally and physically too much.
130-145bpm FTW! |

Okay, I will qualify my positon then. I do not like HHC because it is not in fitting with my musical preferances although I recognize that it does have some merit and I can understand why some would find it appealing despite the fact that I do not.
I cannot stand the HHC scene because it is part and parcel with candi ravers (in Canada), whom I find to be a constant annoyance and deem an impediment to my enjoyment of the party which I am in attendance at.
I further recognize that my position regarding HHC may be unduely biased by my association of that type of music and the candi ravers whom enjoy it (locally).
Wow, was that ever diplomatic! |
