So by that then EDM always uses computers, thats not a reason to dislike a genre..dont you think? |
I've heard the same guitar drums and bass, and "real" instruments over and over again.
But the kick, snare, lead, pads and such always sound different.
As for people who don't like EDM because it uses computers and the artists can't play instruments, I don't give a . Whether it sounds good or not is the only thing that matters. |

| I have no idea why I like it so much, but maybe it because I can hum it? :happy2: |

I was never asked why I liked EDM, even though most of the people I know know I'm into it.
One reason why I like EDM is because it's more rarely played than pop. Pop you could hear almost everywhere for free, on the radio, on TV, in sports arenas, and unless it's a piece of pop music I really like, I won't pay for it if I get to hear it every frickin' day for free.
And even if I got to hear EDM as frequently as pop for free, I would still like EDM over pop because of the high energy and taste. |

There are several reasons actually:
- Ease-to-find: Most popular music played on the radio nowadays seems to be electronic and made to be danced to (hence edm). Also, the so-called underground genres, in which drum'n'bass or techno could be listed, are widely known in major cities, so you can go to festivals and listen to them as well.
- Related cultural movements: Grafitti, break dancing, rapping, post-modernism... those are among the most remarkable aspects of the cultural movements of the late XX century. It's history is connected to nazism and hedonism at the same time, becoming a source of knowledge as well.
- Computer geek music: It's music made with an extensive aid of computers. Who likes computers more than geeks? I still hold that romantic view that the best music comes from a true geekhead experimenting in his basement... and having a hot blond singer take all the credit. It's not like he would care anyway.
- Counter-culture: That's probably the most challenging oxymoron in the whole concept of edm culture. At the same time you have pop artists labelled as world's best DJ's, there's this idea of electronic dance music being counter-culture and underground. That would make culture itself become counter-culture. It is its own opposite. You gotta respect it for achieving that.
- Taste: Oh, I almost forgot that, I happen to like how it sounds.

I like it because it's always different. I don't like rock much because it uses the same instruments. In edm it's always different. | WTF? |
