yes, they're going to pull officers away from jane and finch and have them hunt down teens across the city in these shirts:rolleyes:

i didn't mean that they're going to "focus" on finding these ppl...what I mean is that it's a waste of time to even bother with hassling the ppl wearing the shirt...do you really think a cop saying "I don't approve of you wearing that shirt" is going to do anything?

ya never know it just might....there are still some youth out there that actually respect the cops and might take whatever message they have to heart...

point taken...I just personally don't believe that it's worth the cops time, that's all :)

well obviously the cops arent going to go out of their way to worry about this but if i saw someone wearing something that offended me i wouldn't hesitate to let them know about it.....and if enough people comment on an offensive shirt maybe some of these kids will see that wearing it isn't as cool as they thought it was going to be....

here's my question though...if it attracted that much attention, don't you think it would encourage some ppl to wear it? after all, isn't that why they wore it in the first place (to get attention?)?

Yes, we live in a police state.

The O.P.P is perhaps the largest, and best armed force in Canada, even when measured against our Military.

The government of this province runs the gambling and alcohol trades, and has a veritble army to ensure it's safety.

Look no further than Orillia, where the masssive OPP headquarters resides, along with the academy. No big coincidence that they built a Casino at the same time in the same region.

Sure we enjoy a lot of liberties in Canada, but we aren't that far off the States these days in terms of laws and legislation, no matter what lip-service Dalton and Martin spout off.

What socialist doctrines have either party enacted recently for that matter? Aside from over-taxing us to the point of surplus and privatizing healthcare, what has any level of government done to IMPROVE things lately and open up this supposedly "liberal" nation?

well some do like rubbing people the wrong way and some people crave attention, good or bad...i think the cops saying they're going to hassle people is also a public relations move in hopes of discouraging people from buying them...but there's also going to be an element of people that think the shirt will bring them positive attention and maybe something as simple as a cop or just another citizen saying they don't appreciate the shirt will make that person stop wearing it...i think too many people turn a blind eye to things that piss them off...a simple comment to someone might be all it takes to change their thinking on something....

I'm more with Craig on this one...clearly the police are not out actively looking for people wearing these shirts...although anything more than "hassling" is certainly not acceptable (such as unreasonable detention or illegal seizure).

We complain that nothing gets done about violence, but then defend money hungry pieces of who look to profit from it or people who do nothing but inflame the situation...that's hypocrisy at it's finest. We need to recognize that some things, while legal, are not socially acceptable. There is nothing wrong with passively "enforcing" social norms. We can't FORCE people not to wear such shirts, but there's nothing wrong with our police (or our citizens) giving such people a hard time about wearing them.

If I wore a "White Pride" t-shirt in Toronto, I'd expect to get *plenty* of attention from minorities on the street. Of course I'd expect to not be illegally assaulted or something (though I probably would be), but I'd have to be prepared to accept the attention it would draw. So if some stupid kid wants to wear that shirt, they should be prepared to get that same attention, whether from the police or from anyone else.

technically you can tell a cop (or anyone on the street) to go themselves if they approach you for no reason...it doesn't mean you should be able to do so without being "hassled".

^^ Way to go, keep defending the status quo!

I have no problem defending both individual freedom of expression and society's right to express social values and norms. We live in a SOCIETY, not just a city full of individuals.

Kids have a right to wear that shirt and (supposedly) express an idea...the police, and anyone else, have a right to express their thoughts on those ideas.

nobody is alarmed by this because everyone is sick and tired of all the gun play in this city and and the last thing we need is some idiot coming up with a t-shirt to promote more of it just to make a few dollars...i could care less if the cops hassle everyone they see wearing the shirts, in fact i hope they do...

if you want freedom of speach and you want to piss people off by the message you wear on your clothes then be prepared to answer for it...freedom of expression goes both ways and the cops are simply expressing how they feel about the shirts...

I hope nobody ever hassles you about something you wear.

What if one day "FCUK" is deemed to be against community standards? With precedents like this it could happen.

If you want communism thats fine, but count me out.

If anything the kids who wear it already distrust authority. This will just end up comfirming their suspicions.
