the problem with hydrogen is that the process to make hydrogen to use in cars produces just about as much pollution as running a gas car |

Let me elaborate a bit more on my point.
I agree that many companies will make a fortune in the rebuilding effort. Companies that provide infrastructure, building materials, food etc will stand to profit a lot from this disaster. Naturally, the huge reconstruction effort required will create many jobs and provide a boost to some section of the economy.
HOWEVER, rising energy prices and pressures on oil supply will effect EVERY industry in the country and result in slowed growth, higher costs and possibly reduced productivity. Also, almost one million people have been displaced and most now have no place to go home to. The cost of housing and feeding these people is enormous and this will also cut into the government's budget. Don't forget that most of these people will now be without jobs because their workplaces and their livelihoods have been destroyed.
I guess what i'm trying to say is that the negative impacts will outweigh the "positive" impacts to the economy from this situation. ;)
P.S. I don't really support your conspiracy theory about deliberate delays in the rescue operation in order to benefit companies. It seems to me like the authorities and the government are just really, really ! :p |

when i heard thousands of ppl were directed to the superdome and then were left there without any food, water, or medicine. they could of drop lifted something for them or sent buses to move to a location where they could be taken care of. instead they were left there to fend for themselves or die. |
Did you see what I saw ? It brought me to tears...
First of all, Bush flied over New Orleans arriving back home from VACATION. People were left with absolutely NOTHING for 5 days. On ABC the dead were shown laying in the streets or wheelchairs. A woman passed out on camera due to the inability to receive insulin. Doctors were shouting for insulin! and a syringe needle was passed from the crowd. People left in hospitals by crowds with absolutely no medical history. Broken bones, dialysis, lost medicines, no XRAys.. even electricity! Schizos or others with severe mental disorders.. you could hear the cries in the background. and then this in has the decency upon being interviewed by Walters to state " Those who are looting will see the consequences. " Gawd what a soleless piece of sad . And how are camera men able to be at the scene sooner than ANY medical aid or food?! I'm donating clothes tomorrow. It would seem that anything we provide as common citizens would arrive weeks before any federal aid would even be shipped. Convoys my ass. TOO LITTLE too late. I'm surprised Bush left unscathed. He leaves in 3 days to rejoin family in Fiji :whip:  |

how about collecting methane when cows fart? all the cows need is a balloon stappled to the butts. The only other thing is to paint a sign onto the cow that says "no naked flames near cows because they will explode; but if you do happen to blow up a cow then please do the right thing & scrap up the meat & take it to the sausage factory." |

Sorry 'stella. Had to go make some pizzas for a meager living.
Naw. Title will stay. I like all the convo in here.
And to be true, I never totally felt that way! HONESLTY! What kind of human being do you think I am!
People who think that New Orleans should just rot are retarded though. But the more these, "oopsies" in our country happen the more I get worried. The war in Iraq has drained us, losing domestic jobs, the pseudo-healthy economy, the rising deficit, china-the near future super power, and now hurricane Katrina...
I was nearly sick to my stomach, listening to the "4 More Years!" chanting during the election. Holds even more relevance now.
Hmm... :nervous:

Awww dave. Get off it. No one is truly serious about that. Insensitive maybe, but to really believe it? Naw. It's the internet once again which is at fault for the oral-defecation. |

also if u knew abt the gas market ud know that any rumour of any shortage of gas effects gas prices. has nothing to do with the economy.
rememebr gas is a world commodity its bought and sold on the world market. india and china buying the most and the majority of it. so any rumour of a shortage in the future will rise gas prices. does not mean we're running out of any. and once again does not effect our economy |
I have to disagree....any large increase in gas prices does affect the economy. We are already seeing airlines add a fuel tax to the price of tickets to offset the increased costs of fuel. Every product we buy has to be shipped to stores in order for us to buy them. With the increased costs of gas the shipping companies will increase their price to offset this. The increases will continue down the line until it finally reaches the consumer.
On top of that....if we are spending more money on fuel we have less money to spend on other things. We still need to buy the essential items such as food, clothing and shelter but those costs will all rise as well. Our disposable income will become less and less and if we do not have money to spend then the economy will suffer.
You are not looking at the big picture. |
