Sven Goran Eriksson must go

Sorry, but he's had his chance I think as England manager. There is no doubt this team has talent...why does it never surface? I'm wondering if maybe they tanked this game in rebellion to Sven?

his stupid 4-5-1 and diamond formations are not working...the left side is still a problem. He keeps playing Beckham over S.W. Phillips and openly declaring his loyalty to players like Rio Ferdiand who looks completely lost out there lately...same with Michael Owen.

The last three England performances have been terrible and embarrassing. If they play like this in October, they don't deserve to go to Germany.

Thoughts?

I thought the cocensus among the pundits are that the midfield wasn't dominant at all, i.e. Gerrard and Lampard.

Beckham was energitic and made some good long passes, Rooney was left stranded at the left without the needed midfield help, Owen was outnumbered at the front.

Now only if the midfield improves and start holding to the ball longer.

The funny thing is a pundit at soccernet.com lauded Sven's bold tactics at trying out the new 4-5-1 formation, as Sven says, the players are playing at the same position they play at club level, the formation whether it is 4-4-2, 4-5-1, or 4-4-3 wasn't the problem, that's what he said.

Lampard and Gerrard had been relatively silent. If there is a revolt, the manager should deal with it, out-of-form players should be benched.

Well managers often take the blame for this sort of thing though...it comes with the territory. If the players are not responding to him, it's easier to remove one man than the whole starting XI right? I guess Sven deserves to right the ship in the next two games against Austria and Poland. But he's presided over two international tournaments and only reached the QF in each. Most international managers last one tourney and then they're out.

It might be time for a new approach...his contract is quite ridiculous after all.

haha the f.a are never gonna sack sven they r gonna have to pay him the remainder of his contract if hes sacked im sure he has a 2 year contract on £4 million a year.
Sven is sitting pretty right now he either stays in his over paid job or gets sacked and get a £8million pay off.

Eriksson wont be sacked, the Fa will wait for him to resign after the world cup (or the WC play-offs if we fail to qualify).

When Sven took over it was good for the national team as he didnt carry any baggage or have any favourites like the previous managers did. The problem is he soon found them and refused to drop players when they were out of form. Beckham was the prime example of this a couple of years ago. Its the same now with Gerrard/Lampard. He wants to fit all his favourite/best players into the starting 11 but it completely unbalances the team. Rooney out on the wide left is the most criminal waste of a player ever!

btw sven couldn't even coach chelsea if he was manager, even with all the great players and money.

Well, I still say, depending on how England perform against Austria or Poland, those two games should be Sven's last chance in this period of tension. I hope (and predict) this will serve as a wakeup call in the dressing room and they'll play well in October and probably qualify.

But it still seems as if he's run out of ideas and England's performance has become worse over time, not better. Where's the fire that swept them to a 5-1 victory over Germany in 2001? There's much more talent on this current roster!

This should be a good read for you.

If it is true that the midfield trio cajoled Sven for the 4-5-1 formation, and hence Rooney in an akward position, it is a pity.

it's awfull that he use Owen over Defoe:(
