Sept 11th - three days before my 21st birthday.
I was living in MA at school and EVERYONE there had someone they knew in NYC and a good percentage had fam or friends in the Towers. I remember no one went to class for the rest of the week and I remember them drugging a girl in my house to remove her because both her parents were in the Towers when they collapsed. I remember watching one of my professors run tearing out the door to make sure of the flight number his wife and kids were on - they were on a United flight to LA and, luckily, not on a hijacked plane.
I thought I was watching a movie when I walked into the athletic lounge that morning.
EVERYONE will remember that day as long as we live. EVERYONE. You don't need a ceremony or a TV special or a concert to commemorate what everyone in this country already knows. Besides, moving on is healthy. |

You know i find this all very ironic. I don't see any rememberance ceremonies for the 1998 simultaneous bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Put it this way, what do you think is more important to americans? Lives of americans or other peoples?
It's just like Canadians caring more about what happens to fellow Canadians than other people in the world.
This world of ours is a land of tears. While we should try to remember the lives lost in unfortunate events, human mind has different priorities for each mind. |

I see no memorials for the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Africans in Rwanda who were massacered when the world stood by and watched. Or any outrage towards the ethnic cleansing that happend in former Yoguslavia. These are just two examples of blatent MURDER like that of 9/11. These tragedies have caused death on a grand scale, and should be remembered but it just appears that some lives are just worth more then others.
There better damn well be a memorial for New Orleans. But I don't think that the particular day Katrina hit, and the levee's failed will be etched into memory like 9/11 has, or will ever see as much media coverage for that matter. |

Yup i totally agree with your point. That kind of thing makes me really sick, the fact that, as you said, some lives are apparently worth more than others.
And to be honest with you, i doubt there will be a memorial for the day Katrina hit New Orleans. The only people who will remember that are the people who lived through it. And because of the fact that it was a 'natural disaster' (even though the levee failing was a blatant error on the part of the US Government) we won't get movies about it every single August 30th, or some big "let's remember the families who suffered" show.
I'm feeling more and more jaded towards this whole thing. |

I have no problem with memorial services for such a traumatic event. Even though we don't see any memorial services for traumatic events across the world I am sure there are...the difference is that we see all the american media coverage of events that happen in the states. We don't see media coverage from other areas of the world.
My real problem is that we don't see the memorial services for the other terrorist attacks in the states. It seems that September 11 gets more coverage then the other attacks. |

Why not blame the media....the media decides what is important and as long as we watch then they will keep pumping it out. As soon as we stop watching then they will move on to something else that catches our interest.....so maybe we should blame ourselves then. |

I do care...Hell it still really bothers me. My, our generation (I'm 28) have not lived through a major conflict or act like this. Our Grandparents saw WW1 and WW2; our parents witnessed Vietnam, Korea, and the cold war. Forgive me if I have over looked a conflict. These events shaped the way our previous generations viewed the world in many respects and 9/11 has had the same effect on us. The only problem is that the media twists and force feeds us what they want us to see and hear. I am not Pro-American or for that fact Anti-American...I am Pro Peace! As soon as we forget history it is bound to repeat itself...we need to remember what has happened and pay our respects in our own way...I guess to sum this up I will always remember where I was and what I was doing on this faitful day. Ask your parents where they were when JFK was shot. Ask your Grandparents where they were when the atomic bombs were dropped in Japan. They will know and they will tell you the exact details and those of you that care will remember and tell your children. I mean not to offend with this post...I guess I'm just getting a little soft as I get older and I have been affected dramatically by the events of 9/11 and all that ensued afterwards. To all my fellow brothers and sisters...in the words of John Singleton:
