Threads that shouldn't be closed are being closed.
People who shouldn't be suspended are being suspended.
Drunk threads can be locked after they've served their purpose. If someone doesn't feel like reading a drunk thread, OMG, guess what? They can choose not to read the thread!! Incroyable? No?
No one forces any of us to read EVERY thread in EVERY forum. I don't understand why this is even an issue and definitely, I do not agree that people who start drunk threads deserve a 48 hour suspension.
Coupers, somewhere you said that you had received lots of complaints about someone...WTF. If someone pms a complaint, why don't you just tell them to use the ignore feature? OMG, how hard is that? It's not fair to consider how many complaints you've received because no one pms you if they like someone. I mean seriously, what are you supposed to do? Start a thread somewhere advising us that you've received 3 complaints about User ABCDEFG so you want to hear from those who support or enjoy User ABCDEFG? Of course not.
But if you don't do that, what's going to happen? If someone offends me (i.e. let's say someone says I sound like a cum-guzzling tranny whore and OMG my feelings are hurt!!!!111 ;)) I can pm you, I can get all of my little intarweb buddies to pm you...and you'll eventually ban that person? As much as I might enjoy that, it wouldn't be fair and it wouldn't be reasonable.
You pounce on igottaknow. While I definitely do not condone racism and obviously haven't read many threads of late, I do typically enjoy his posts.
And geez, if someone spits at Orbs why can't he spit back? This makes no sense to me. You let some of us say what we want when we want and others are restricted? I don't have to temper my posts. Why does he?

I like the way you think. :) In my earlier days I would have blown up but now I vented a little then sent my PMs, took a deep breath and moved on. I didn't create this thread, but it struck a chord with me, so I added my 2 cents.
No one thinks mods shouldn't lock a drunk thread or something that's gone out of control, but its a slippery slope when mods determine what is entertaining or tasteless. I believe in a light handed approach. The COR has self correcting ability. Uninteresting threads fall down off the first page and are forgotten. A-holes will lose respect and will be ignored or laughed off.
My view of the COR is that its a place you can blow off steam and clown around. If you want serious discussion there are plenty of other rooms on this board for that purpose. IMHOP this is the COR, good, bad, or ugly take it for what it is and stop trying to "clean it up".
As far as me being a racist. I know I'm not and I'm not going to waste my time for trying to prove it. Echo makes a good point about complaints. I also get the feeling that complaints against other members are a method of removing ppl they don't like or a form of hypersensitivity that shouldn't be catered to. Reminds me of the religious types who are offened by the teaching of evolution. |

Do you understand what purpose the moderators serve here? Do you have any idea what these forums would look like if moderators weren't here to prevent people from posting complete all the time?
If everyone had free-reign to post whatever they liked, two things would happen:
1) This forum would be literally nothing but useless, impulsive posts. There would be no reason for people to consider, for even a second, anything they were going to contribute. Nothing of value would ever be posted and anything that was of value would be bumped off the first page within half an hour.
2) Every post that is made increases Swamper's bandwidth costs and clogs up his server. Unless you are financially contributing to TA, I'm not sure why you should get any say in what is or is not an acceptable contribution here.
People in this part of the forum complain about the strictness of the mods, but I don't think that any of the people who post here have any real idea about how strict forum moderation can be. Take a look at the moderation on forums such as those on www.somethingawful.com (arguably the best on the internet) and then come back and tell me that the mods here are strict. The mods here are patient and let an awful lot of ty posting slide. If you don't like the fact that drunk-threads are being closed - given the incredible purpose they serve on a trance forum - feel free to encourage these posters to go elsewhere. I'm sure that the couple of dozen or so "COR Whores" - the ones complaining about the moderation here - will not be missed by the rest of the community. |
