I need some friggin advice about school. How in the hell do u college people do it??? I make 30k a year AND I go to school at night. I’m covered by student loans, but there is a 15k balance that I didn’t get covered for, so now I have payments to my school of $330 a month starting oct. 1! How F’D is that??? I don’t know what the hell to do. All I have is a car payment, insurance, cell phone and that’s it. I’m crashing at my mom’s right now, but I REALLY want to move out and I don’t think I can afford it. It is SO damn expensive down here. What are some other ways I can get money for school?
I’m starting to not like the whole day job thing either…I’m not going to have ANY time to do anything once my classes start next month. Maybe I should start bar tending or something so I can have more time off during the week to take classes during the day? But I don't like not knowing how much money I'm going to make either. I just feel very restless and I feel like I need to change my entire lifestyle right now. I always go through this every year. I don’t have any stability and I don’t LIKE stability. Is there something wrong with me that I find it extremely depressing to be at the same job for 20+ years and live in the same house your whole life? Bleh!
What should I do? Should I just stick it out for one quarter (11 weeks) and start thinking about doing something majorly different after the holidays? I’m all set right now at my mom’s…she’s totally supporting me and we’re actually getting along great, so I don’t mind crashing there, but I want my own place bad! I want to go to school during the day but I need to make a lot of money so I can pay my bills and be able to do stuff. Has anyone done that thing where u work for the school and get hooked up with tuition or something like that? |
Didn't take the time to read through the whole thread (I'm at work... randomly busy, but this intrigues me) but I'd have to agree with the first few replies, hell, I'm kind of going through the same thing... Just with work, trying to work on music, and trying to figure out how to pay for school (My parents don't cover any tuition, so I'm all student loans & scholarships) I freak out... It's actually been weighing on my mind a lot the last week, because with work/school/bills I'm starting to realize that maybe I'm not going to be able to do all the fun things I want to, and because I'm a spoiled brat, somehow I think it's unfair... :(
I don't know really hot to deal with this either, I guess it's just something that sneaks up on me, pisses me off and freaks me out for a week or two, and then somehow or another I figure something out to solve my stress in the short term and go from there...
God I just want to be graduated sooooooooo bad... it would make like 11 billion issues in my life easier... Money sucks and I hate it so much...
[/my hijacked rant along the same lines as Jamies original post]
:p
OH, and as far as working FOR school, I don't know how your school is setup, but at mine, the jobs they give you are weak, barely cover a SMALL portion of tuition, and put little to no money in your pocket (Like $20-$50 as week, I think the most I've heard for one position is like $100/week)... so here, it's not worth it...
| quote: | | i think my problem is similar. all of my friends are out of college so they don't have the same probs i do moneywise and timewise anymore. not only that, but i want to start life now. i want to date girls...i want to look the way i want...i want to have money....i see other people and they seem to be able to do that and it makes me want to do those things even more. maybe i'm just being unrealistic. i just want my life when i'm through with college to be what i want it to be and it's definitely a struggle to make it that... |
Exactly. |

So how are you paying the 15k back if student loan didnt cover it? credit cards? or another form of loan? ......I cant see your lender making u pay it back if your already enrolled in classes, unless it was unsubsidized, but even those types of loans dont go $300+ a month. What school do u go to btw????
=============================================
I was in the same boat a couple years back with loans....taking breaks off from school, etc....but I had to totally switch up my lifestyle for a couple years and get "back on track". My social life took a nose dive (n still is), but i guess it comes w/ wanting to live in your own condo/apt., spend $, smoke the high-grade, & get loans for school. It took me a while to get acustomed to the lifestyle, but in the end it'll work out. And, yes, I had to move back in w/ my parents for a while too to get my money right, but now i see it was the right decision. |

| u solve this by finishing school then making so much money with the job you get that 15k will seem like pennies. or have a incredibly rich dad like i do. |

Well I guess I only got approved for a certain amount of my student loan (my federal stafford loan) and I got a few grants but not enough to cover it all. So I went in the other day to go over my financial plan again and reapply for my loans (I have to do this every quarter which sucks) and I had to bring all my tax info in and all that crap. Anyway, she just told me that I have to pay $330 a month and that it was for what didn’t get covered by my loan. I was just like, “Man that’s a lot of money, but I guess I’ll have to do it”. Should I go back there and ask her why I have to pay that balance NOW instead of after I use up my loan money? I feel like an idiot, I don’t understand it at all. I go to a private art school (www.aifl.edu) so it’s a bit pricier than state colleges, but I really like it there and they offer the same degrees.
RJT I’m just like how you described. I’m all freaking out but really, I have like 11 weeks to figure out. I’m already enrolled for the fall and my classes start in a couple of weeks and I’m all set crashing at my mom’s…so whatever I decide, it won’t really happen until after the holidays, but I’m getting that itch to make a change. I HATE it when I know that I need to make a change, but I don’t know how or when to do it and that drives me nuts! I want to KNOW right now, and not have to worry about it. I’m sure I’ll figure something out though. |

| Believe me Slylee, your not the only one who has been racking their brains about work, school, money, home etc. I've had that on my mind constantly for the last two years now. I graduated from College in May 2004 and working FT in my field but the pay isn't all that good, basically it's enough right now for me to slowly pay back my school loans and and maybe after all that have about 200 bucks to play with each paycheck. $200!!! WTF, after working 40hrs a week this is all I get in return for myself. So basically, I'm thinking about going to school and getting a degree and using it along with my diploma to be more specialized but now I need money to go to school and really I don't wanna get any more student loans but it looks like I'm gonna have to if I wanna do this. I'm living at home right now too and it kinda sucks because all my other friends have already moved out and what not and I'm still at home, times like this I wish I was like 16 again were I had absolutely no worries and all I had to do was go to school and say a P/T job for play money. |

No way!
As much as I enjoyed my teenage years, nothing can compare to the freedom I have now.
I determine how I live my life, and I'm loving it at the moment. :D |
