If your cable modem is connected to your router, the computer won't detect the modem. It won't even detect the router. All it will detect is the NIC in the Device Manager. It only detects the modem when the modem is a USB device. Where on your computer are you trying to detect the modem?

nono, it's not connected to the router..

Ok, how do I make my modem work through ethernet cable and not usb

This sounds stupid, but anyway.

If you havent already, use the disks that (might have) come with it. Ive found its very hard to manually install modems and that the CD's solve all the problems.

I'm guessing you've already tried disconnecting the USB cable and uninstalling the modem USB software? You can't have both ethernet and USB at the same time. How 'bout some more deatils, like, type of router, operating system, firewall?

I already mentioned the ethernet connections earlier.
