I might even sport a guess that she wanted to be arrested. Check out that smirk. (Not sure how to make this image appear--just click the link below).

Sheehan Arrested

quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has used her son's death in Iraq to spur the anti-war movement, was arrested Monday while protesting outside the White House.

Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

Sheehan, 48, was the first taken into custody. She stood up and was led to a police vehicle while protesters chanted, "The whole world is watching."

Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in an ambush in Sadr City, Iraq, last year. She attracted worldwide attention last month with her 26-day vigil outside President Bush's Texas ranch.

Sheehan was among several hundred demonstrators who marched around the White House on Monday and then stopped in front and began singing and chanting "Stop the war now!"

The demonstration is part of a broader anti-war effort on Capitol Hill organized by United for Peace and Justice, an umbrella group. Representatives from anti-war groups were meeting Monday with members of Congress to urge them to work to end the war and bring home the troops.

She got arrested for sitting on a sidewalk? Isn't that a sign that the government kind of has a little too much control if you can get arrested for sitting? :wtf:

Sounded to me like she was arrested for not doing what she was told, i.e. she was warned 3 times not to loiter, but chose to continue to do so and face the consequences. If that's what she wanted, more power to her. It doesn't matter anyway, it's all just a big dog & pony show.

Uh, just because someone is outside the US, that doesn't mean they don't practice/believe in "democracy" :conf:

Democracy is not necessarily "made in the USA" my friend

Then why is this "A great day for democracy", old chap?

FYI, I wasn't even talking about his nation of origin.

You mean trying to establish democracy where there was only totalitarian dictatorship? I think killing as few as possible has always been a stated goal/strategy. Death is an unfortunate consequence of war.

I do have to say that this woman is a publicity hound and what she's doing leaves me unimpressed, even though I support her cause.

She must be upset that the hurricanes have been getting all the press lately...

Funny, I didn't realize that helping to set up an Islamic fundamentalist government that pisses on women's rights and has Law of Islam as their guiding governing principle, while at the same time having us fight for their Islamic fundamentalist cause as well as squashing a rebellious group of dissenters in a civil war-

equivalent to "trying to establish democracy".

But I leave room for correction if I'm wrong.;)

As for Sheehan, she's yesterday's news. She really should move onto greener pastures. I understand that she's a great target for you GOPers, though. Any dip that stands against your cause is worth painting the entire group of anying person that disagrees with the Right Wing Noise Machine.
