heres something to think about.
when pvd, tiesto, armin, etc spin in NYC, they pay about 70-80 US.
and u people complain when we see sasha, digweed, a bunch of big names on one night, for 15-30 CDN???
geez |
exactly...
normal guvernment cover charge should be $25. Not 10-15.
And special events should be at least $50
That is if we are talking the real world.
People here dont know how good they have it... now if only we could get the crowds here to lighten up. |

Hey now.... don't go giving them any ideas! You bring up an interesting point though.... I wonder what the market would bare for cover charges.... how much are we willing to pay? Personally, I'd rather see low covers and inflated drink prices but that's because I don't drink. |

i think the market could bare $20 cover now a days for the big big clubs. Just that people here try to sell their mothers so they dont even have to pay 10.
Welfare clubbing is a huge problem in TO for sure. |

I'm sure the market would dictate much higher prices...but then we'd end up with a 'Leafs game' type crowd if prices went fairly high.
i.e. a greater # of people who have money, but who are not necesarily true fans. |

Here's a question... who gives a ?
I've seen what it's like in other places. I know it's not as bad here. I don't really care. I care what it's like here, not there.
Bigger is not better when it comes to crowd size unless you're a sheep or you're on drugs. It's not even about the capacity - these events just lose all their personality when they get HUGE. You're not really meeting like-minded people anymore - you're just lost in a sea of bodies, struggling to keep tabs on your friends and figure out what the hell's going on.
It's lame and annoying when people compare "our" superclubs to "their" superclubs. Superclubs suck ass. I'd rather hang out with a group of friends at a small(er) more intimate venue like Element or Boa or what used to be the breaks room at System. The trouble is that the number of these venues is shrinking, and the number of friends who have become addicted to the superclubs (and all things associated) is growing. |

lol...kind of.
but I know several people who are true EDM fans who only get out to the odd event...students working PT (or grad students who don't even have time to work much).
The last thing I want to see is a place where cover is double and it's just a bunch of wannabe high rollers dropping lots of cash just to impresh their dates. We already have enough of those types of bars/clubs in the city.

werd!
For all of Guv's size, I spend 95% of the night in the same spot on the dancefloor by the front...I don't know (and don't care) what the whole rest of the club is doing. |

here's a question: did you ever think that maybe the crowds seem better elsewhere cos it's new to you/something different, and you're away from home or on vacation?
people go on and on about fabric, for example, but that place is filled with truly frightening people, in my experience. same with aria. i didn't notice the first time i went cos it was a big novelty, but the more i went back, the more i saw things i didn't like. doesn't mean i don't love both those clubs, but seriously, crowds can be crap anywhere! suck it up and deal with it.
back to the original topic, i have long passed the point where i need, or even want, to go out every weekend. it got really ing boring doing the same thing all the time. basically, i'm in the same boat as sueperstar, except i like house and don't like techno. :p i got sick of going out and being bored, so i maybe go out no more than twice a month now. i am all up for doing boring "adult" stuff now like dinner parties, and drinking at someone's house because a)i like just hanging out with my friends where i can have a conversation without shouting and b)i can't afford to go out all the time. plus, hibernation season is coming up for me. :)
so enjoy doing other stuff apart from clubbing - it's fun!!! |

ive considered it and its not the case... people are much friendlier, more reactive to music and generally a lot happier. Ive even lived in other places so once the novelty wore off it was still this way. Plus, people who visit me in toronto say that people here are quite rude at clubs and many many of the guest djs i have worked with have all told me that toronto crowds are usually reactionless and relatively quiet |

I really don't know exactly what could have contributed to it, but over the past 3 months or so, I've just not had the urge to go clubbing that much as I used to. I went to some big events, such as Labour of Love, and Above&Beyond, etc.. but I haven't felt like going to the smaller clubs like boa (although now closed), systemS, or Phoenix (yes, I like rock and retro too).
I was thinking it might be contributed to the fact that my involvement into DJing has removed the novelty of clubbing, since I know where and how DJs work with and acquire music. Otherwise, I feel somewhat lost and slightly in fear of losing my love for the club scene that I did love before. Or maybe I'm just being too dramatic about it.
I still love to produce house/trance/prog music, and I still love to spin it. so what could it be?
Has any1 else gone thru such a thing b4? what cures are available? (aside from listenning to country or rap or top40 until my ears bleed?) |
I'm going through the same thing right now. I just can't seem to get excited about events happening. The last one i went to was LoL and after that i decided that it was time to take a nice long break from clubbing and even (to an extent) trance music. Maybe it was because LoL didn't do it for me or because i've been partying too much for the last 2 years, i don't know. All i know is that now i can't put myself in that super excited frame of mind anymore. It's sad because i used to love doing all that.
I'm thinking it may also have to do with the amount of stress i'm dealing with school wise, i have a lot of projects and i need to manage my time properly, which means clubbing is taking a major backseat in my life right now. At this point though i don't see myself going out to clubs for the next few years :( It's kinda sad, a bit like a chapter of my life i really enjoyed but really need to close now. |
