Alright alright...

so i see a lot of you guys spouting things like, "HA! You think 50 cent is REAL hip-hop?? how ignorant blah blah blah"

AFAIK, try looking up stuff by Atmosphere.. they are pretty good and non commercial.. (i could be wrong though)

Hip-hop, not rap, is a movement, praising Africanism, graffiti, skateboarding, etc. Artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, A tribe called Quest, De La Soul, Common (although it seems like he's selling out nowdays), all portray the skill that hip hop is.

Check out some of the UK stuff.
Taskforce, Skinnyman etc.

I don't tend to like American hip-hop much, but I guess Public Enemy is an obvious thing to recommend.
