Looking to upgrade my current soundcard en emu 0404, Need a sound card with at least 2 sets of analogue outputs and would prefer external so i can use it on a laptop and a desktop. Also needs to have an asio driver and that's about it.
Any suggestions:D |

Sorry was a bit vague, can be firewire or usb, would like an optical output if possible but not essential becuase i could keep my current card as well.
Price range upto £130 maybe a bit more but open to suggestions. Cheap as possible really. |

I recently bought an M-Audio Firewire 410 for $250 (available on EBay.co.uk for £191), but that's probably a lot more than you need - it comes with four analog inputs (two XLR with preamp/phantom power, two 1/4"), two digital inputs/outputs (coaxial and optical S/PDIF), eight line outs, and a bunch of other crap. I'm using it for production and DJing, but if you're just going to be using it for DJing, then it's probably a better idea to stick with something smaller, lighter, and less expensive. M-Audio products are always top notch and a breeze to set up - I'd suggest sticking with them.
The Audiophile USB is a good choice - it has a headphone jack (for monitoring), two RCA line ins and outs, two 1/4" ins, and coaxial S/PDIF in/out. There's a link over here . It's available new from a couple of retailers for about £150. If you need more outputs, the Firewire Audiophile (link over here) has another set of RCA line outs, and is also available for about £150. If I were you, I'd stick with the Firewire. |

careful, the FW 410 does have 4 jacks, but only 2 inputs. you cannot use both the front neutrik and rear 1/4" at the same time. when it says 4in it is including the digital inputs as well. i got dupped into thinking you could run 4 analog channels at the same time and when i tried it out i was seriously disappointed. other than that, its a wonderful interface. |

For a minimalistic laptop system try the Echo Audio Indigo DJ - has 2 stereo line-level outputs (one for your amp, the other with volume control normally used for headphones).
Plugs into cardbus (PCMCIA) port. It's very small and convenient, no extra cables or power supply to mess with. I leave mine plugged into the laptop all the time as it's so small.

I play my acoustic guitar (it has a pre-amp, so I can plug it in to an amp/soundcard) and sing with my mic at the same time while recording it. It gets a bit picky about the specific inputs, but I can record two things from the front and back at the same time as long as I plug my mic into the second XLR :p |
