Numark HDX turntable got hard drive
Heads up, DJs — Numark will be rolling this sweet beast out before the end of the year. The Numark HDX is similar to its predecessor the CDX — both sport a vinyl “interface” for working with sounds that are actually in the digital domain, but the HDX adds a full on removable hard drive in addition to the CD player found on the CDX. The unit will ship with an 80GB hard drive that functions as a mass storage device, so transferring your music collection is as simple as hooking up the unit via USB 2.0 and dragging and dropping from any Mac or PC. The HDX supports playback of MP3, WAV, WMA, Ogg Vorbis and FLAC media and has an onboard Gracenote database for auto-tagging imported tracks. It’s also got a number of built-in modes for scratching and looping as well as a number of onboard beat-synched digital effects. It also ships with a PS2 QWERTY keyboard for even easier navigation through the display interface. Video clips of this in action via the Read link.

MP3s sound like on a loud system no matter what....
vinyl sounds the best followed by true store bought CD format (never having been compressed)
MP3s should be banned in clubs. |

ANALOGUE = BETTER VIBRATIONS!!!
bass is better.......
mp3's or cd's should only contain re-edits or alternate versions not available on Vinyl.......
DJ culture and it's attitude towards audio format sure has changed in the last ten years.....though you wont find as many house DJ's doing the digital thing......IMO...RECORDS ARE STILL KING TO THE HOUSE DJ....

p.s. although the advances in the digital technologies are more for "convenience of use" now - you have a whole generation of people/jockeys who feel - IF YOU CANT/DONT MIX/PLAY VINYL - YOUR NOT A REAL DJ.......and that means lugging around yo records!! (or find appropriate bitch to do said job :) ) |

| well since an mp3 is approx 1/10th a raw wave file, obviously the louder the volume of the sound, the more apparent the compression will sound. vinyl sounds the best since it can go over odb without creating digital distortion to create 'warmth.' i'm sure any djs know that anyways though. mp3's are great for house parties and small clubs can get away with it, but on a large scale, no way. |

Yeah it is... simply because it's much cheaper and easier for unkown artists to get a release out there (and also for the DJs to download). But the fact remains, compression to mp3 (even at 160-192kbps) sounds poor in comparison to actual vinyl. As Jay explained to me one night at Viva... the loss of quality can be most noticed in the low frequencies... which you'd NEVER hear unless you're playing in a big club environment.
Doesn't mean I'll stop using them.. but I'm much more careful with the tracks I select now... |

At MIKE the bass was so loud it was literally hurting my eardrums. It felt like they were rattling inside my head. I asked the guy at coatcheck for earplugs and he looked at me like I was crazy!! :haha:
Most digital downloads are avialable in 320k, no?
edit: on the original subject, i dont care if Numark develops a cdj that sucks you off in between mixes, i still wouldnt buy that . |
