tiesto and avb have always been commercial IMO even before they were heavily marketed. The reason they became heavily marketed was BECAUSE their sound was commercial.
Its not a big deal if people like these djs. Hell its better than hip hop! But what pisses many people off including myself are two things.
1) people who think they are cooler than everyone else (particularly the mainstream) because they like avb/tiesto when in fact these djs themselves are mainstream.
2) outsiders who confuse electronic music with tiesto. For example, many people who dont know dance music consistantly call the who genre trance and think its all about what Tiesto does. In the past the generic description for anything with a 4/4 beat was "techno" but this has changed thanks to Tiesto. |

its sad really...cuz i think you're missing out. This post is directed at everyone who wonders why:
-certain djs don't play well anymore
-certain djs don't play particular genres anymore
-certain djs are boring
-certain genres suck so much more than others
-you get the point...
this scene we are in is alot simpler than you guys are making it out to be. You posted a good point with starting this thread, but imo the Kool Haus was rocking to armins set...true about montreal and the crowd not diggin it there but thats montreal and it is a KNOWN fact that they like it "hard and dirty".
Not to say toronto's crowd doesnt...but the Kool haus had a stellar atmosphere during armins set. It was by no means his best but it certainly wasn't signature armin trance for 4 hours...if you people are so good at analyzing you will notice that the music he plays is evolving with every new ASOT episode and that is directly reflected in his sets (look at what he says in the interview).....
see what you got me doing...analyzng...im gonna stop now

Good post! but i was referring to AVB's 2004 set. I should have mentioned that. I wasnt at his recent set. MTL is the last time I saw him live, and probably will be for awhile. |

Dude, do you realise how hyprocritical that post is? 'its better than hiphop' is the exact mentality people are applying to trance vs underground trance vs house vs prog.
It does not matter what is better, its all about what certain people enjoy. If somebody enjoys something you dont, that is THEIR life, their effort, their money. Let them have a good time, and allow somebody else to get the same enjoyment you may.
Why not even try and embrace these people, and see what makes them tick? Maybe you will learn something about them! I like to walk into different rooms at the Guv all access events, to see what draws people there, and what they enjoy. If i dont like it, i leave, but i still think its cool that people can/do have such different tastes.

Thats what this post is about and what ive been trying to say! TY! I have listened to trance for awhile, but it just doesnt do much for me these days, atleast the most of it. And trust me, I used to love trance in its hay days. |

Well dood if you don't like trance anymore...then move on. It's ok to ask the question of what happened to trance dj's and their nrg...but the way you come across here isn't sounding very positive or considerate to other TA's. You need to stop and rephrase your words better or just move it along....cuz your post sounds kinda like your trying to instigate something and as a TA...there is something really not kewl or right about that.
I also think you need to realize that not all of TA's are into Armin or Tiesto...and some of us can appreciate them...but we don't go outta our way to hear them spin.
So let's just keep this all friendly here and walk away before some feelings get hurt. |
