You really don't know anything about trance do you?

Except maybe psy or goa. And it couldn't work in hard trance, either, I don't think. Either way, the slowly changing timbres of the melody, and the slow layering, at the very least, define one of the most perfect trance buildups (as in, across the entire track) I can think of. The key to Firedance is that the melody never stops playing once it starts, although it does go into the background.

believe me. It works excellent in hardtrance sets as well.
yeah I agree. the tune itself is very simple but yet so perfect. The melody just goes and goes up and up and takes several different paths. I can't think of any other tune which is as trancy as this one. It's both beautiful, hypnotic and deep. Puts most of the todays so called trance to shame.

I suppose as an enduring image of trance and its evolution, Café del Mar is the one. Just listening to the mixes chronologically basically tells you the history of trance from 1993 to the present.

Comprimise:

Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar (Oliver Lieb Remix)

I'm not saying its the best track ever (even though its probably one of my favs), but I reckon it defines trance by the parameters I define trance to be (explained underneath).
THE ROOKlE
Odyssee of Noises - Firedance is the first thing that "pops" in my head.

As for as Trance with vocals goes Andain - Summer calling (Airwave progressive mix :eyespop:
SpecRadio
Push
Cosmic Gate
Johan Gielen (His earlier days)
Svenson
Darude (Definately had an impact on TONS of the EDM community)
DJ Jean (Yes in his earlier days also)

Trance Energy is where all these would play.

I am not too fond of Armin Van Buuren being booked at Trance Energy. He does not play the type of trance Cosmic Gate or anybody else on the list, would play. They're more hard trance, and booking Armin and those people who play what he does, is taking away the tradition of Trance Energy, and ruining Trance itself.
MarathonMan
I'll have to say BT - Flaming June

Trance Energy never was an event that definied the trance sound. It's more like a pop event with not the best but the currently most favourite djs playing there. And they don't necessarily have to know how to mix (DJ Jean for instance). DJ Jean never was a trance DJ in his early days. He was playing hiphop and stuff.
And allow me to smile when you mention Darude. It's like saying that Britney Spears defined the popmusic.

i'd say that

li kwan - point zero (original)

pretty much defines the current epic trance the best IMO (not all trance, only epic!). this one tune made in 1994 IMO did it better than any tune after it pretty much.

but i really won't say what tune defines trance as a whole as i believe that there's no such thing

;)

Veracocha - Carte Blance
Three Drives - Greece 2000
The Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia
