so if you decide you want to have a little pre-party bday dinner at a restaurant, is it pretty much understood that everyone pays for themself? i got an evite invitation thingy for my friend's bday this friday and it's starting out at restaurant and i assume that i am paying for myself.
my bday is coming up too and i'd really like to do the same thing at a restaurant before we go out and party...but i mean it's tacky to mention that everyone pays for themself right? so is that understood? if you got invited to a restaurant for a birthday dinner, you wouldn't go and expect that you're dinner is paid for right? |

it depends.........................
ive been invited to really good restaurants for birthdays..with a table over 20 people and it was already paid for....
and ive also been to birthday parties at restaurants were ive had to pay....
basically dont go to a birthday party thinking its going to be already paid for...if it is..great, if its not..well its not.. |

| not that i want "free foods, and drink0rz" that's just what i'd do, i'd pay for the dinner if that's my bday, so i'd expect others to pay for me, but that's just me. |

well i can't afford to pay for like 10 people's birthday dinner and i wouldn't have it at like some fancy restaurant...just some place in south beach that is moderately priced...like a sushi place or something.
when i invite people should i clarify that? |

| if it is indeed a small dinner and it's for YOUR BIRTHDAY (mines is oct 18th) and you've gathered select people for dinner, you should expect that your dinner is being paid for. And if anything, you shouldn't have to plan your own dinner, this select group of friends should be doing that for you! Yes everyone included should be paying their own share of dinner and yes everyone should incur the cost of your meal as well. thats how it should be shouldn't it? I mean cmon, these are your close friends yes? I'd expect the same as I've done for other birthdays for other close friends. |

| there should be an acronym for invitations where people have to pay for themselves. like how they have byod (bring your own drugs). |

| jamie my friends do this ALL the time and we usually expect to pay for ourselves. maybe people might all chip in to cover the birthday person's dinner, but that's about it... |

well yea in a perfect world...
these are my friends, yes, but i mean not my BEST BEST friends...i only have one best friend whom i've known since 4th grade. all these other friends i've only known for the past year or 2 and we just go clubbing together all the time in south beach...it's like my "crew". i wouldn't expect them to know my birthday and go out of their way to plan this dinner for me and pay. i mean, yea that's the kind of friend i am and i would certainly do that for my good friend, but i'm sure no one would think to do this. especially cuz my bday is the day after halloween, so everyone gets all wrapped up in that...
i just wanted it to be like a, "hey come join me for dinner in celebration for my birthday...bring whoever you want, the more the merrier" type of thing...i don't really give a ...i just want some good company on my birthday and some good food. i think it would be understood that i'm not picking up the tab for everyone since i'm not really known for having a load of money or anything... |

exactly...i wouldn't throw a birthday dinner for yourself and expect people to pay for it...bring money to cover your dinner and if they all want to treat you then sweet...let them :p |
