RebeL9 was off with his comments on america 'ing' things up but I think he just did that to stir the pot (clearly) and whether or not he's from Afghanistan is debatable - that's the country you end up getting if you don't choose one when signing up.
Now, on to your quotes -- Clearly your superior intelligence is not being conveyed with your words. For starters, there is a difference between "you're" and "your" - maybe you should invest some of that $97k in a grammar course. Next up, you state you don't know somebody and then start to make assumptions about them - contradictions don't bode well towards winning people over with your flawed argument(s).
And finally, if it is 'only the internet' why are your posts so filled with anger?

| 99' I was on #dancemp3 finding new tracks by bus stop and hollywood blvd and sash-colour the world. While MJDance was providing these fine mp3s on his server, I was learning how to use my first two cd decks. While that was happening, Swamper was reading html books and wanted to build a website dedcated to a genre called Trance. :) |

Back to the intent of the thread... during the "Gilded Age" of trance, I was listening to... classic rock! Haha, well I was only 11, so it was basically whatever my parents were listening to, the radio mostly. Plus I'd rather say that than what I was listening to a few years later (nu-metal). My memory of TA goes back only to early 2001 around the time of the release of Paul van Dyk's "Out there and Back" CD. I remember there was alot more open file sharing, it was very common to chat about mp3s, there were IRC channels, audiogalaxy groups, napster rooms, every file sharing venue seemed to have a tranceaddict faction. I also remember the IRC channel for TA was alot more active, there was a link to a chat applet at the top of the forum index, and on that same page was a list of the most recent replies to threads so you could see which conversations were active at the moment, the chat room kinda died out on us later and the page wasn't as fun without the active chat channel. People in that chat would always be talking about whatever big DJ happened to be streaming a mix at the time, I remember listening to many big trance party broadcasts with my fellow TA's in the chat room , with them naming every track as they would play. I also remember chat room topics like "PvD=God, AvB=God In Training", I also remember people would announce when musicians were in chat rooms then everybody in the channel would all join the discussion with the musician.
There were several characters who were seen as the big TA ppls, each one of them was very knowledgable of a specific subset of the music, One kid knew alot about old songs, one kid knew alot about Pvd, one kid was informed on the DnB, and so on. So each person would come here and talk about the thing that they specialized in, and together they would add up to this really valuable source for information about EDM. Alot of threads would be about what somebody thinks a certain sound in a song means, or what people thought about the latest song from some big famous person. Alot of the threads subject lines would simply be the title of some song I never knew about then everyone would discuss the track. There were alot more threads with song recomandations in them, there was alot more tracklists and mentioning names of songs than there is now, mainly because we would all copy those song names and search for them on p2p. There was also alot of "is trance dead" kind of topics, that is one aspect of TA that has never changed. The population on TA was always quite nerdy, many times people have embarrased themselves by claiming to be a DJ only for it to be later revealed that they are just another napster kid trying to look cool.
Names I remember as being the really popular kids on TA back in the day:
Starfox, ABTSportsline, torontotrance, errr I better stop listing right now because I am having trouble remembering, they all had really memorable sigs and avs and stuff and would always be bragging about the promos they had the hook ups for and it would always make me super jealous (still does), but the big TA kids were always the kids who had these MASSIVE song collections and had the hook ups for prerelease tracks. |
wow i made this thread last night and i got 9 pages. i was very pleased til i found very little content. a few respectable ones. if only i was chatting with those more popular kids now such as starfox and ABTS i might be regulating these boards more often.
