you're kidding right?? get the facts first because they sure as hell don't support that sentence

Heres my idea.
You take all the world leaders of every country.
Sit them Down.
And give them some ecstasy.

We would achieve world peace in one night :D

Actaully, when it comes to getting a job as a police officer, there is a greater chance of them hiring another race/gender over a white male.

Thats not to say all jobs are like this. But there are a few out there. I know this because my brother is becoming a police officer, and they told him this in the interview.

Also....in the fire department....white males have to score higher on all testing then any other sex or race....I'm sorry...but if someone is gonna have to drag my sorry ass out of a fire....I want the biggest strongest guy doing it....i don't care if he is white.

White males are the first to be accused of racism and in a lot of jobs they are over looked simply because they are white. All I am saying is.....is it really wrong for white people to use the race card to their advantage?

I want to read an article entitled "Proud to be Québecois(e)" hahaha

regardless, white males on average still receive more for the same job. and the point of affirmative action isn't to make fair for this generation. its for the next one..or even the one after that

this thread is touching on a number of subtopics, so I'll touch several of them myself.

As for white's being overlooked for jobs, there is no doubt that is happening; the Justice Department admitted last year to CBC that white males need not apply for jobs as parole officers - only native Canadians and other racial minorities.

Should we have a problem with white pride? Personally, I don't; however I draw a distinction between pride in an ethnic group and using that pride to denegrate another group. This article obviously shows white pride being used against other ethnic groups. We should also be aware and equally critical of minority groups using ethnic pride to denegrate white people. There is nothing wrong with Black History Month. Understanding one's roots is an important step toward self-empowerment. However, using historical ills to justify vengeance against white people, a cornerstone in the philosophy of black nationalist groups such as the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam, is as equally evil as the philosophy of the Neo-Nazi groups.

The historical ills argument potentially leads to an ugly slippery slope. I'm of Irish heritage (also grew up there); should I feel justified to hate English Protestants because they invaded my homeland? We've watched for thirty years where this idea has led.

How about the historic grievances of Muslims versus Christians regarding occupation in the Middle East? Or Jews for the diaspora? Or the plight of the gay community - It's endless.

With that said, should whites be afraid of making valid, reasoned criticisms of other groups? Of course not. I will never feel guilty for criticising some aspects of the black community for using the "400 years of oppression" argument to justify the 'Black Wall of Silence' when it comes to dealing with the police. I would also not feel guilty for criticising some gay activists for maintaining the Pride Parade as a political statement when in actuality it's an expression of hedonism closer resembling Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Carnivale in Rio de Janeiro.

Cultural growth comes when we can examine different perspectives in a proactive manner.

Just my two cents,

Nathaniel

quote:
The actual phrase "affirmative action" was first used in President Lyndon Johnson's 1965 Executive Order 11246 which requires federal contractors to "take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin."

and affirmative action is not taking place....correct me if I am wrong but White People are part of a race or color.....and in north america.....applicants are not considered without the above.
