so i was talking with st_andrew and we were talking about problems in france and suddenly came this question into my mind maybe u can debate about it ....

do we still need socialism in our societies now a day?

to me the answer is clear we need it but not too much ...socialism is good to keep some things like welfare or education free and all but too much socialism is killing the system so what's your opinion about it and please i don't want to get flamed for making this thread ...i just thought it would be interesting to have your opinions !

well, if you want me to partake, you'll have to define socialism in practice in france, and all the alternatives to it :p
h0tsweetbabyd0l
solidarity ,equal opportunities ,equality respect ....i agree with all these things though but when u see in france that the unemployed people refusing to work refusing a job and still have welfare don't u think it's unfair?
Shakka
equality of opportunity or equality of outcome/income?
h0tsweetbabyd0l
i dunno really can u tell me the difference i searched in my dictionnary like they don't want everyone has the same salary but everyone should have equal chances to have a job and all

how can the goverment make sure everyone has an equal chance to get a job?
h0tsweetbabyd0l
by positive discrimination ....by universities systems they are trying of course it's impossible btw our unemployment rate is high more or less 10% but actually all this discussion was made because of the crisis of france .....we need to make reforms and thats why i was wondering if socialism which still had a big place in this country is still needed .....

how does it work in your country?

If everyone get the same chance to education! Ie school is free from kindergarden to university! (or everyone can get government loans for their education)

the same is happening in germany and i don't see how this is socialism.

anywho, people need to get off their asses and go find a job. this works in America and people still bitch that welfare is little and stuff and they don't have money for college, well that's what financial aid is for. i think education is free in france like it is in germany right? if so then there's no problem. go to school and get a job. in america we value people who work their asses off and not rely on welfare for generations. no offense to anyone ofcourse.

So you're for things like affirmative action? positive discrimination is still discrimination. Just because you put the word "positive" in front of it, doesn't necessarily make it a good thing and doesn't necessarily mean that someone isn't getting the short end of the stick. You can paint a piece of purple, but it's still a piece of .

+1 with a caveat...

We who work our asses off appreciate others who also work their ass off. I don't put in 60 hour weeks so I can listen to some douchebag bitching about how I make more money than him. Those that bitch about not having as much as others are consumed by envy, IMHO.

thank you. It's funny how me (so far) and my parents have accomplished more than any one who stands around union square (a place in the village where people usually hold rallies and protests and bull like that) and bitch how there are no jobs. My parents came here with nothing but an education that America doesn't recognize unless you a doctrate and you still have to defend it. Now my mom is a pharmacist with her own business and my dad is a site coordinator for a huge hospital facility. I'm in college and have a job for 42 hours a week. But ofcourse there's no jobs out there
