just get a 12' Apple Powerbook that should be perfect, or if you want to save money get an Ibook.

i dont know about the sound card on an ibook, but on my Powerbook its great, i can run Logic on it fine and i do recording off it all the time

you want stability which an apple laptop can provide unrivaled by any pc

I'm poor. :(

I'm only getting a desktop because my existing computer is on the verge of extinction, but I'm planning on buying FS soon so I thought I might aswell get a computer that will be upgradeable without too many problems in the near future.

My Dad has a fairly decent laptop incase I ever wanted to go mobile, but I thought I'd kill 2 birds with one stone by uprgrading my bedroom set up and getting a new PC too.

I was just at Comp USA yesterday and am thinking about going with the new G5 laptop...its only like $1300. I've heard good things about Apples, but their specs seem to be less than most normal laptops...in terms of on board memory and gghz...anyone know anything about Apples notebooks?

basically, if it is a decent enough laptop to run Ableton in a club environment? I have a PC, so I'm not even going to hook this up to the internet or use it for personal use, its solely going to be used to dj. i know everything there is to know about actual dj equipment, nothing about computers.

Yes! most certainly, just make sure you add heaps of ram (get third party ram, apple ram is expensive)

You dont have to take my word for it though here is sasha djing with his powerbook:

Pleanty of other big name djs do the same, try typing in powerbook and BT, Gabriel and Dresden, or Richie Hawtin into google image search :)

thanks for the input. I think i was actually looking at the ibooks...not the powerbooks. Is there a big difference? Also the new g5 pcs look cool as well....the ones with the built in screen.
Nic
The ibooks have slower hard drivers, slower buses and slower cpus. For DJing/production i'd really recommend a powerbook, but you could probably get by with an ibook

I was just at the Apple Store today and the guy recommened the Powerbook. , as opposed to the ibook. I think I am going to go with the 12 inch version and max out the memory to 1.25 GB.

it looks like Sasha is using the G5 PC, not the powerbook. I was looking at them today as well and spec wise, they're definitely better than the powerbooks and cheaper. I'm just not sure how feasable it is to lug around to clubs.

Yeah specwise a G5 iMac is better than the G4 Powerbooks, but do you really want to lug around an iMac instead of a 12" Powerbook? I'd go with the 12" with full memory upgrades.

well, its not like a full PC or anything...its basically the same size as a laptop and not really heavy either. i'm just concerned that it might not be built strong enough to withstand being brought to a club a few times a month. On the other hand...Sasha does it multiple times a week....
