well, its not like a full PC or anything...its basically the same size as a laptop and not really heavy either. i'm just concerned that it might not be built strong enough to withstand being brought to a club a few times a month. On the other hand...Sasha does it multiple times a week.... |
Yeah, it should work uf you are up for it..
But the only drawback is the keyboard you have to lug around.. really..
I bet apple offers a travel case of some sort.. |

the guy at the Apple Store led me to believe that the new g5s were not meant to be carried around like laptops and advised me against getting one to bring to clubs. I did however get pointed in the direction of some of the Sony Vaios which look awesome. Decisions decisions.... |

Buy a sony vaio if you want to pay more for nothing.
Id check out the powerbooks and the custom laptop dealers like alienware etc etc.. an alienware wont be cheap, but if you get it with just the options you want and keep it dedicated it believe it will be the best pc laptop youve ever owned.
if you want something dedicated, you dont need all the extra fancy the vaios give you... plus they come preloaded with all sorts of bull as well.. stay away! |

I own a Sony Vaio PC and love it. No complaints whatsoever. The Vaio laptop i was looking at is actually cheaper than the 12 inch Powerbook and spec wise looks just as good.
anyone know anythign about the Toshiba Satellite laptops? they look decent as well |

I had a satellite 5 years ago, biggest piece of ever. They have probably got better since then, at least one would hope so. |

| I decided to bite the bullit and go with the 15 inch Powerbook and soup up the memory to 2 gigs. I don't want to mess around and settle for a laptop i'm not going to be 100% satisfied with |

Wouldn't recommend anything else. Zero maintenance issues (spyware, virus, defragging, etc.) and rock-solid stability. I know you'll be happy with your 15".
For anyone else in the same situation, the primary advantage of the PowerBooks is line-in on the motherboard. With the iBook, you need an external interface such as a Griffin iMic. This is just one more item dangling off your laptop which is subject to being broken or lost.
Realistically, performance (for recording) is a non-issue. A 400MHz PowerBook or even G3 provides more than enough processing power to record even the longest sets - even if converting MP3 on-the-fly. Max the RAM no matter which model you get, and call it a day. |
