I've lived in Ukraine until 95, and I've also spent my last two summers there. There's barely any minorities there apart from viatnamese/chinese vendors, who are not even considered to be people, and foreign university students, who are better off. And yeah, if you go outside of the big cities and tourist attractions and you're not white you will be treated like .
Having said that, in the cities, I've seen ugly ass brown and black nerds that a regular north american girl would at most laugh at and pity, with superhot white girls on their arms.
So yeah, if you're black/brow and in a metropolitan setting you are an exotic curiosity, if you're in a rural setting you're a freak and are not welcome.
It's the same way as in most parts of the world.
And I totally agree with this, because you can see how the ideal of mixing cultures has worked out in practice in american ghettos and crime, france's muslim problem, the israel and the muslim world. |

Some of the ex USSR countries are painfully similar, case in point - russia and ukraine. If you don't know that you must not have lived there very long. |

you gotta be pretty damn stupid if you think Ukraine and Russia are similiar. They are different in more ways than they are the same. And especially since we're talking about racism which would include different racial groups...and since russia is like what...10 times bigger than the Ukraine and stretches over two continents how are you gonna generalize the people? |

I think its really sad that you have to highlight these facts to him as though Russia ends at the Volga. As for Russia and Ukraine similar, okay. |

lol I think you have me confused with someone else I must have posted less than five times this year in the political forum.
And as to what I've said before, you just have to think about it. There's so many threads here denouncing colonization(Africa's slavery is a great example), denouncing americanization of the cultures of world, and you honestly have never thought the underlying issue there?
Forming a culture takes a hella long time. Over billions and billions of years the language is created, the customs, the laws, all unique and all to serve the people of the culture, to the point where it serves the needs of the people perfectly. PERFECTLY.
So what do you really expect when an unnecessary foreign element is introduced to the perfect machine? It breaks the down that's what.
Example - a lot of people are bitching about the muslim cultures that advocate women be dressed like this all the time:

Well the muslim women sure as hell don't think so. Why? Because her husband thinks she is the most beautiful woman on earth since she is the only naked woman he has ever seen in his life thanks to custom. Enter Playboy from the west featuring the the full colour product of cosmetic surgery/photoshop - starts to break down.
You can even go back farther into anthropology back into the times when our ancestors developed the "us and them" survival instinct when bands of monkey-like humans vied for the best mammoth-hunting lands. The times when your own tribe meant safety and comfort, while "them" meant threat, competition, maybe even violent death. The outcome of billions of years of this = "us and them" mentality is INGRANED in our minds. It's PRIMAL.
Look at your friends. Your closest friends may be of different colour and ethnicity but I guarantee, GUARANTEE they share the same outlook on life, same opinions, celebrate holidays, and do things in the same way you do. Similar CULTURE is what binds you together.
And you want to say that rational thought will override our billions years of evolution? That logic will conquer the instinct to survive? That we will all rise up above our human animal nature to join hands and sing kumbaya?

Anyway excuse me for not voicing what is considered to be a redundant statement by most of ex-USSR nationals - The people east of Ural have different issues. |

If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't post in this forum, its that simple.
Most western foreigners that do go to Russia go to Moscow and St Petersburg area, mostly for tourism and education purposes, plus of course everyone from the former USSR republic goes there as well to make money. This Euopean Russia is the side the video that was posted deals with.
On the other side of Ural, the foreigners are mostly from China due to proximity of the two countries. So it's a whole different ball game with different teams and rules. I even remember a law being passed that would not prevent the chinese that would marry russian citizens from getting russian citizenship or something like that, because an alarming trend appeared where the numbers pointed to the region having enough votes soon to secede to China. |
