hey yall i recently purchased reFX vanguard and ive been messing with it, so far its awesome!
my main concern right now, however, is trying to recreate a few specific sounds of classic trance songs. if anyone knows these songs (im sure most of u do) and have the slightest clue on what preset to start off with in vanguard or what parts (example: reverb, decay, detune, cutoff, envelope blah blah or what types of wavs such as sine fm saw tri-morph etc ) i should modify to get nearly the same sounds, i would greatly appreciate it. because im new to this stuff, so far ive been messin with these knobs by ear, and ive come pretty close to getting SIMILAR sounds, but still very off from the originals, and i would really like to kno how to get those specific sounds. anyway here are the classic trance song sounds im looking for:
1) Rank 1 - Awakening (main melody)
2) The Quest - C Sharp (original version, the main melody)
3) Witness of Wonder - Emotions in Motion (original version, the main powerful melody sound with the awesome cutoff)
4) 4 Strings - Take me away (main melody...in vanguard using the vengeance default factory preset bank, one of the presets called "Hale Bop" comes pretty close, but still not quite same sound)
NOTE: the sound of the main melody in #2 and #3 are very similar
thanks yall, and if yall kno of any other vanguard "formulas" for recreating famous trance sounds from famous artists/djs, please post here

| vanguard is pretty simple to program, but if you go out and read huge tutorial on synthesis you'll get very confused. just keep tweeking knobs and see what it does |

Check out Audiopioneers.net for tutorials in vanguard and other VSTi's on how to make some of those sounds. This is a really cool site, but unfortunately its members only. Been trying to get in here for a while, maybe one day eh.

why dont you try tweaking the other knobs too??? adsr wont change the sound just its dynamics. play with the filter the drive and fat knob for start.
also you have to know that every synth has its character. without the exact synth (and fx used in the chain) you will (almost) never get the exact sound. you can come close but thats it. if you really want classic trance sounds that much then... get a jp8080 :D |

Good luck with the Take Me Away one :haha:
i dont know about programming synths so, i should just shut it, but a top would be to try running several instances of vanguard on the same MIDI notes, with the same settings |

Heres a link: 4 Strings, to my take on the 4 strings sound. It is made with 1 instance of RBK21's JP8000 ensemble in Reaktor 5.0.0.7.
If you want that sound then my advice is either Reaktor with RBK21's ensemble and Cyrus's new bank or you will have to buy a JP8000, cos that is a supersaw sound. You will also have loads of very useful classic trance sounds at your disposal.
Hope this helps.
Easy now!

wow that 4 strings sounds very like the original...and i got one of the sounds i was looking for, sounds probably 95% same as original synth to witness of wonder - emotions in motion (original mix)
its like a pure jp8000 supersaw sound, if u guys are interested try to get a copy of whiterabbit vanguard bank (i think it's free) and put it on the preset called TRANCE and add some reverb and have fun with the cutoff...wow ull go krazy...
anyone have any idea though how to come up with a similar sound to that of the old school original version of The Quest - C Sharp? sounds like a pure jp8000, but its unique, any ideas how to get close to that with vanguard? |

Too bad i dont have vanguard, i made the 4-Strings sound in V-Station * Take Me Away * here is the* Preset * , i hope isnt difficult translate to Vanguard.
I made too other two similar Rank1 sound (no awakeing sorry, too lazy :p):* Such Is Life *. the well know* Airwave *. And the The Quest one:* C-Sharp *(i hate the sound :conf: ).
The last 3 was made with the supersaw of my JP-8000, i havent tried the Rb2k1 supersaw enssemble but i heard good sounds from it. If exist any chance of load the JP presets in the enssemble will be great :p
btw i will try to do the same thing with SuperwaveP8 and upload the preset for the ppl who dont have a JP.
Adios!
edit:
C-Sharp in Vstation :conf: : Sample - Preset
btw sucks badly |
