Smart Fortwo crash test at... 70... mph... (pg. 2)

I'm quite surprised they have the camera crews so close to the crash zone. No protection either, from what I can see. But I guess that's not the point really.

Quite impressed with how sturdy the car is, but I agree on the lack of chances for survival for an actual person involved in that sort of crash. Still, it's a good confidence boost for the car though, since I'm sure that's gotta be top marks for most any crash rating.

Yeah, six inches of crumple zone at 120kph aren't going to do much, but how often do people crash head on at such a speed? Very very few cars would fare well in that sort of thing.

I was just reading an article from a car magazine in Quebec in which they took a Fortwo from Halifax, NS, to Victoria, BC, and with the average cost of diesel being $0.972 per litre it only cost them $268 in fuel. AMAZING.

Oh and Dan, I just configured a base model Fortwo Coupé with A/C and the CD changer, $18,180. Hah.

I'd buy a Toyota Yaris, methinks. Or the upcoming Nissan Tiida/Versa... Honda Fit... And if Mazda can get the 2 here, rad.

Remember Cale, 2 cars colliding at 60km/h each is like hitting a brick wall at 120km/h

I'd save a few grand and buy that new Toyota that replaced the Echo, if I was in the market.

You guys don't have the 2 over here? That's strange... I would've figured if we had it back in Aus, you guys would have it here.

Mazda Canada officials have openly admitted that they're trying to get the 2 over here, but they can't figure out how to skirt around the bumper regulations. ing 8kph horse, it is.

+1:p

Very impressed @ how safe this car is for it's side. Really amazing, it almost looks safer than most cars on the road.

I test-drove a Pure Cabrio back in the summer and I've been hooked ever since.

When you look at the engine specifications and the fuel economy - the engine isn't -that- amazing.

Compromises must be made somewhere, if the vehicle was lighter (it's 2200lbs!) then it'd get even better fuel economy. However, safety must be taken into consideration and quite frankly I'll take how they've got it set up as it is now.

40hp, 78lb-ft torque, and 3.8L/100km (74mpg) highway, 4.6L/100km (61mpg) city? Hell yes.
marcusus
Shame about the torque though. 78lb-ft isn't very much.

But I guess the car wasn't made for that type of fun...
Although, are they rear wheel drive?
