The NES had problems sometimes but it was almost always tracked down to particular buggy games (bad programming) or dust problems with cartridge/inside of console

EXACTLY! Everyone knows their NES console and games and the tricks you have to do to get them to work nowadays... but it still works!

Honestly, I do not think this is a big deal. I think one of the reasons it crashes, is because it has no moved away from a pure console, to more of an entertainment unit. It does so many other things. Just like windows, something is bound to go wrong.
The other thing is, with so much hype around launch, buzz and expectations are running high. Any isolated incident can be heard around the world through the web.
Microsoft estimates is going to have sold 3million xbox360s in 3 months. So I am guessing, these exaggerated defective numbers will be brought into perspective with some time. |
Actually, you're wrong.
A PC is designed to work with millions upon millions of possible configurations, so hardware and software must go through extensive testing in a multitude of different configurations to stamp out as many bugs as possible.
A console is designed for very specific use, and the software only has to run on one specific hardware configuration.
There is no excuse for a console to have major problems or be buggy. Seeing as this Xbox 360 problem is not limited to a particular game, then that means the 360 itself is flawed and wasn't tested properly because it was rushed.
Microsoft was dead set on releasing this in time for Christmas. Sony on the other hand was taking their time, and the PS3 has been in development for years now, if you include the Cell processor development. But when the PS3 comes out, the wait will be worth it. |
