"We have received a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected," Microsoft spokeswoman Molly O'Donnell told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Enthusiast Web sites such as Engadget.com and Xbox-scene.com, as well as Microsoft's own Xbox Web forum, carried postings on Wednesday from Xbox 360 owners reporting that some systems had crashed during regular play as well as during online game play using the Xbox Live service.

Xbox 360 grab-a-thon
Devotees line up as the console launches in the rain and in the desert.

Problems included screens going black and the appearance of a variety of error messages.

"So, the Xbox 360's been available for, what, 15 minutes, and already the crash reports are streaming in," a poster on Engadget said. The sites did not say how widespread the problem was.
In other news:

The machine is the first of a new generation of consoles offering high-definition graphics and has been snatched up by game enthusiasts since its launch on Tuesday.

O'Donnell, who declined to say how many reports the company had received, said calls represent a "very, very small fraction" of units sold. The number of calls was not unexpected, she said.

"With any launch of this magnitude, you're bound to see something happening," she said.

O'Donnell said the best way to resolve the issues is to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX for trouble shooting. If that does not solve the problem, she said, Microsoft will repair or replace the unit.

I love how they say "a few isolated incidents."

Taken from the games subforum of another forum I frequent...

yeah, meh. It's a numbers game, you released that number of ANYTHING and you're gonna have problems, especially when people are looking for them... hah remember when the toonie was released and people were saying how easy it was to poke out the middle and then little kids could swallow it etc. LMAO

People are mental, seriously.

Are their problems? Possibly.
Was it rushed out to market? Oh for sure.

But is it more likely that the Sony Spin Doctor machine is hard at work? Yep.

It's expected. And from what I've heard the graphics aren't all that stellar. For a console, they're great, but still not up to par with top-end PCs. And for a console with that much power, that's kind of questionable.

from the amount of consoles they put out, i'm sure it actually IS just a fraction of them that arnt working as expected.

bottom line, electronics fack up sometimes, they will work out the bugs and hopefully get it all good lol

i know i know, they should have already worked those things out lol

2 people had to return them yesterday because of this.

One actually teared up when I told him we couldn't replace it for him until after Christmas, ha.

i remember they had the same problem with the old xbox, more incidents are surfacing because they are selling loads this time around compared to the old one when it had a really slow start .
Playa24_7
i'm hearing its like 10% that has stuff wrong with them roughly, thats nothing compared to the ones that are fine.

Plump Funk
ouch 10% is alot, and thats only the first few days.
StereoPrincess
this is like drugs.

drugs get approved for the market and then people start dying.
