Some yes, but canada is ridiculously over regulated.

As someone who works with Sirius radio canada, I wouldn't be suprised if in say 3 months the Stern would be available in Canada. this is not a fact, it's just a guess by me.

It all comes down to one thing. this is a subscription service that I am paying for, so the CRTC should right off. I watch pay per view tv, I subsrcibe to things like the Fight Network...no one tells me it has to be 85% canadian content.

The CRTC is a fine body of government, but it's rules are outdated and need to be overhauled.

The CRTC needs to be scrapped period. All they should be in the business of doing is making sure no one says "" before midnight on public radio and making sure radio signals dont overlap. Otherwise they should piss off.

#1 reason why I'm going with this- I've missed FAR too many essential mixes and festival webcasts from having to get in my car and go somewhere.

Nat, you should get a system that you can keep at home AND take into your car, plus it should be able to RECORD...then you'll ALWAYS have all the Essential Mixes! (in case you need to leave your car for any reason)

despite the canadian service id still get the american one to an american adress. As far as i know youd still get the new canadian channels as well but you wont have the CRTC to answer to.

Im willing to bet though that since this is communist canada, grey market radio is somehow illegal. Im surprised we are still allowed to get foreign programming on the internet to be honest. I forsee the day when internet providers in canada are required to block that.

Wow, never have I read someone who has a sheer utter raw hatred for the CRTC.

It's a funny balance. On one hand I'm all for nurturing homegrown canadian talent...but on the other, I dislike it being force fed down my throat because it's "Canadian" I believe that talent, music, movies or otherwise should be judged on it's merits..not because it's Canadian.

It still seems that we are so insecure about our culture that we need imply the can-con levy to radio and television in order to stay "canadian". Bryan Adams, Simple Plan, Twain, Dion, etc etc all made it internationally because the music appealed to people...some guy in Belgrade won't care if they're Canadian, he's to busy rockin' out to Summer Of '69.

On the other hand, is it because the can-con rules force fed the radio to play Bryan adams that the people bought it? To answer that, I put forth the Nickelback Cyndrome: Play it more that twice a day, people will get annoyed!" IMO anyways.

The only useful purpose the CRTC ever had was the prevention of multi radio station ownership in a single market. That made radio much more diverse in the past. Since they let go of this rule we have american style radio now anyways. Cookie cutter coast to coast formats. So whats the point in even having that useless twat of a regulator? So now they want to prevent us from hearing what someone who is an advocate of free speech has to say on sirius? How democratic!

Why should the government decide if we are allowed to watch fox news or listen to howard stern?

I feel like i live in north korea or china at times.

No we can't. W.E. and Ozland don't share the world's longest unprotected border with the most powerful country in the world.

I disagree. Canada has always been a tool to Britain or the U.S. Our domestic policies have been GREATLY affected.
