windows xp home or pro?

Here are some benefits of pro that home edition does not have:

Improved software (application) and hardware compatibility
Simplified security
Simplified log-on featuring new "welcome" screen
Fast user switching
A new user interface featuring context-sensitive, task-oriented Web views
Enhanced support for digital media (movies, pictures, music)
DirectX 8.1 multimedia libraries for gaming

So does that mean pro is more compatible with all your music hardware and software?

Does the enhanced digital media really enhance a computer for music production?

Can DirectX 8.1 run on home edition? Would it be needed for audio production?

here is the site that I got that information from:

You don't want to touch XP Home with a 300-foot pole.

that bad huh?

Is it like WindowsMe?

Why is it so bad?

I use Home with an NT partition. Works like a charm. It's FAT32 you want to avoid like the bloody plague.

Home and Pro are basically identical, but Pro supports multiple CPU's and a few other things.

ouch! my symphathies...windows ME is the worst opportating system i've ever used. so many problems on it...at least xp seems a lot more stable, and used responsibly without having spyware flooding your drive, little problems have been encountered.

XP Pro (with all updates) by far, but after using Apple OSX 10.4 Tiger I must admit that Windows really needs to release a new OS. XP is so far behind Tiger at the moment.
dEEkAy
XP Pro.
It works and it gives you the flexibility of managing your hardware unlike Home Edition.
Besides, if you configure your hardware right, u wont see it crashing.

XP Pro, very stable and you can have cool features like me n my mate where our cpus are linked up via bluetooth and obviously protected via firewall. XP home does not support Networking as far as im aware.

Ryan0751
What? No support for networking? That would mean you couldn't get on the internet, share files, print to a remote printer, etc. with XP home. That's just false.

Read this instead of listening to all this misinformation:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/.../choosing2.mspx

If you look at the "PRO" advantages that everyone seems to be recommended, 99.999% of you will NEVER use those feature or even know what they mean. They are all for corporate desktop use.

Very true, except Home doesn't support dual processors. Therefore if anyones planning to buy a juicy dual processor daw, your gonna need pro or else half your processing power will be sitting idle.
