It may seem harsh in ur eyes, but singapore's society is probably more advanced than most 1st world countries.
Everyone there is pretty much law abinding and theres no sign of unrest anywhere u look even in such a diverse multi racial country.
Know the laws and value ur life. Drug trafficking itself is a dangerous business and he knew the risks involved. This time he lost and lost his life in the process. Boohoo. This guy was trying to make a quick buck out of heroin and selling it to addicts which in turn corrupts communities and here u are whining when people in africa are begging for food. |

The Australian media has been having an absolute field day with this story.
Personally, I think he knew the risks and he took them, so he should face the punishment. The death penalty (and other strict laws) in Singapore act as a strong deterrent, and hence Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. I know it's a harsh punishment, but he knowingly broke the law in Singapore and so he was faced with a mandatory death penalty.
Also, it is worth remembering that that heroin could have potentially caused numerous overdoses on the streets if it reached its destination.
Some people in Australia have been suggesting a minutes silence, trade boycotts |

My state has capital punishment - PA, so do many states. Don't get me wrong - I SUPPORT DEATH PENALTY, WHEN APPLICABLE. As example, tell me if this local does not deserve to die: he comes home and takes his 3 months old crying baby by his feet and smashes his head up against the wall. If you don't think a scumbag like that deserves to die - you're seriously ed. But drug trafficking? Ok, life sentence - understood. Beating, understood. Hanging? NOPE.
Here's another example: Local 15 year old girl is brutally raped, stabbed and then choked to death. Then, her body is dumped into dumpster and set on fire to destroy evidence. The beast who did it is a prior registered sex offender. Now, imagine this is your daughter... Please, do tell me, would you want to buy him flowers or a beer? |
And how many lives could the heroin he was smuggling in destroy hmmmm?
He took the risk, tough . |

I wish it was 2015
he would have been sentenced and executed in a matter of hours after his arrest
scumbags like this guy don't deserve life
/back to the future rules |

| If he indeed broke some countries laws, he is not a citizen nor a resident of that country. he should be tried and sentenced under his countries laws. |

the point is the law itself is inhumane and ridiculous.
anyway this really reminds me of the movie "Midnight Express". Guy gets caught with drugs in Turkey, gets sentenced to life in prison. based on a true story. scary |

Regardless of what country you're from, you always should be expected to follow and obey the rules in countries you're visiting. Unless you're a diplomat, your post is flawed. |

I can understand justification of the "law is the order" but rest assured if a european (read: french) national was executed in US for smuggling drugs, there'd be riots in the streets.
for a civilized country to use hanging - for any kind of crime, short of murder or rape, in a 21st century is simply barbaric. Even in US most states that do have a death penalty do not use the chair anymore - as it is considered "cruel and unusual punishment". I must say though, I thought that hanging was appropriate, when a pedophile who mollested something like 60 children, was hung from a crane in some middle-eastern hole earlier this year. They put a noose around his neck and raised him up - which is a crueler execution than regular hanging, as death is slower and more agonizing.
...but there's one thing I'll agree on with Cyrus King: we live in a ed-up world. |

Every Country has their own law, stop being another stupid american that go bother other countries business. It is very clear that Singapore is no joke when it comes to drug trafficing. |

| OK, i got carried away bout the American joke. im sorry, but Singapore DID bend their law for letting his family member giving him hugs and shoke hands before hanging him. By law in Singapore or mostly anywhere people are not allowed to touch or see death penatie prisioners. |
