Wow... wish I'd only paid that much for my copy, I spent about $50 for it. |

these 2 (two because I cant decie which 1 is more/less rare) will probably be the most rare records (EDM-styled) ever 'made';
Underworld - Mother Earth / The Hump [Not on Label] =>read the notes in the release info
DJ Tiësto - Battleship Grey [Nebula] check its wants ... if someone can tell me a story on this record (ever heard miro's mix, seen this on ebay, or whatever ..), then tell me .. i think this is the pure definition of a rarity itself |

yeah i've wanted that Underworld for A LONG time...it's a badass track too...which sucks.
but neither of those are even close to the rarest EDM tracks ever...you should see how rare and wanted some ambient albums are... |

hmmm well i guess actually the owner to wanted ratio on those are pretty high hehe...so yeah i guess they are pretty rare...
lots of ambient albums have a ton more wants then those, but also have a decent amount of people that have them. |

of course thats a difference. i guess you can make two categories then of rare;
- one that has a ratio (# of wants)/(# of owners) ... by discogs statistics that will be probably then.
- the other categorie will not be on the ratio mentioned above, but only on the number of wants (by discogs again)
anyway floorfiller, can you post me some (discogs)links or names of such ambient releases that are rare? very excited to see some :) |

Think about this for a second...
If something is really THAT rare (ie, 1 copy, 5 copies, etc), do you think it'll even be in Discogs? Probably not.
Here's an exception: Look at the first releases by Boards of Canada. All of those were made for the group's family and friends, those were the ppl who received the copies. Those are the type of releases you should be looking for, if you're actually after stuff that is truly rare. Releases that an artist never intended to release in the first place (like the BoC stuff) is much more rare than anything you've mentioned thus far.
Also, a music release being rare doesn't mean it has to be any good. JO Bob's Dance Music could put out one song on an acetate, and if they junk it b/c it sucks, it's still rare as hell b/c there's only one. But it sucked. Keep that in mind. |

| i complete agree with you waxhead...obviously anthing really rare isn't gonna be on discogs, but it's still fun to look and see what people want and what is a collectors item and all of that :p |

True, though recently some "collector's item" records have sold for amazingly low prices on eBay. I guess what makes a "collector's item" or not is truly in the eye of the beholder ;) |

And on top of that, Discogs doen't always allow in acetates... I have an acetate of "Love Story"... but it's not in there, but it's the only one out there (at least by that pressing company) that I'm aware of. |
