As I posted in the other thread, the deals are terrible this year, it's totally not worth going to the malls.
I heard there were major pre-Christmas deals this year that I missed out on, but BD/BW will be a waste of time. |
You are totally right man. I looked over a lot of the flyers, and I did not see any 'boxing day' prices that we have seen in the past. Just normal sales.
I guess from the point of the retailer, why not do this right? You can make greater margins, and people will still think they are getting a deal because its boxing day. Most people wont do their research, and will just blindly go out and buy, buy, buy! |

I have the luxury of being able to go shopping in the states on boxing day. The good thing as well, is that they don't celebrate boxing day in the states. It's still a bit crazy with shopper's...but not nearly as bad as all the madness in Canada. There's no door crasher sales or anything. So I don't have to be up at 5 in the morning to get there when the stores open!
Good luck all! |

You guys are all nuts.
I'm telling you, there AREN'T any good deals this year, unless you know some of the smaller stores downtown which are having sales that don't advertise them. But don't go to a mall, for the love of God... you're in for a big letdown and a lot of pushing and shoving.
Essentially what the stores seem to have done this year is substantially marked up their regular prices around Christmas time, and lowered them back down to retail on Boxing Day claiming that to be a "discount". I guess you can't blame them - people are going to buy anyway before Christmas, and after being used to those high prices for a month are all going to think "wow, it's so cheap!" afterwards. And the "door crashers" I'm seeing are all crap that nobody in their right mind would want.
I'm especially surprised at you John, after you posted that other thread about how broke you were. If you're going to go into debt in order to get "bargains", at least make sure that you're actually getting a bargain! |

what you may not think is a good deal to you, others may think it is a good deal to them. Also not everyone may be shopping for things listed in flyers or advertised. ie. shopping for clothes or shoes
my bro just got the sattelite radio device this morning for $49.99. So he is now out in his truck listening to his new purchase :p |

I went there last Boxing Day and found some sweet deals at Mexx.
I typically go later in the afternoon after the malls have somewhat cleared up. It's still madness though.
It's Yorkdale this year. :nervous: |

No, they just aren't good deals. Others may think it is but they would be wrong if the items they are looking at are being sold at retail or just-below-retail prices.
$50 isn't such an amazing price for a Sirius receiver - you could get them during the year for $60 and the ones which are being sold for $50 are probably being phased out. I also think the car receivers in particular are a ripoff since most of the new CD/MP3/WMA decks are also Sirius compatible.
Even the clothes deals aren't great this year (unless, as I said before, you know a bunch of the small stores to go to - but not the ones in malls). Last year there were all kinds of deals at Guess, Diesel, and so on - not this year! |

as long as I can remember boxing day has been full of "mark-downs" from items that have been marked-up for the past while... that didn't start this year!
but.. power to those of you who find stuff you want for what you consider relatively cheap - I'm sure there will be stuff that for somebody out there is a deal compared to how they normally shop.
I haven't the energy to deal with shopper crowds... party crowds yup, shopper crowds noooooo! |

| went to Vaughan Mills this morning for about an hour. Itw as still reasonable at 9 am. By the time i left it was getting rediculous. Mexx, Guess, Club Monaco, etc all had fairly good deals. So did the Nike Store. Thats about it. |
