The innocent days of mothers fretting over the discovery of nudie magazines in the bedrooms of their teenaged sons are over. On Thursday night, a mom in Toronto pulled something far more ominous out of the sheets of her boy’s bed --- an AK-47 assault rifle, a beastly war zone weapon capable of unleashing up to 700 rounds a minute.
The gargantuan gat was discovered in the Coxwell / Gerrard area and the parent who stumbled upon it promptly notified authorities, who took the 17-year-old into custody.
The timing of the discovery couldn’t have been worse, with the city still reeling from the Boxing Day shootout that claimed the life of Jane Creba, and subsequently inspired all three levels of government to take action.
Parents in Toronto seemed to agree with the mother’s decision to turn her own son in.
“Absolutely. Absolutely. And I think at the same time when I see that people are saying that we should have stronger laws, ten years found with a gun, life for committing a crime with a gun, I'm there,” said tough talking Rob Walker.
The teen was still in custody Thursday night after making a brief court appearance. He will appear in court again on Friday for a bail hearing.
Police won't comment on the case but do say an investigation is ongoing, and other suspects could be brought in.
The AK-47 is banned in Canada but can be purchased in the U.S.

The guy is a retard. I no longer call him a kid because if you are 17 and are consious enough to get a gun, you should be tried as an adult. No doubt in my mind.
It's one thing to get a hand gun, but to get an AK?? That kind of weapon is not used as a scar tactic, it is only used to somebody up. Throw the fool in jail and throw away the key. |

| Messed up kids. Lock him up, and good for the mother. CLearly if the guy is stupid enough to own one of these, the parents didn't do a good enough job in raising him in the first place, and probably would not have dealt with this very well on their own either. |

Good for her to fess up to her failure. Ok I wouldn't say its all her fault for her child to have an AK-47 but she definetly plays a part in it i'm sure. |

I'd take a Steyr AUG or FAMAS over the AK any day.
But in all seriousness now.. WTF DO YOU NEED A ING ASSAULT RIFLE HERE IN TORONTO FOR?!?!?!?!?!?
Maybe I could understand someone needing one if they are a highly skilled professional bank robber.
Or maybe a very serious gun collector.
Hell.. maybe the person is just a ing crazy nut who is planning on squeezing off a few rounds in a crowded intersection somewhere downtown toronto.
But a ing 17 year old kid!! WTF?!?!? Something is very wrong here (besides my mental capacity). |
