I would say that Canadian values and American values have never clashed as much as they do now in years! With the exception of the gun crime. Yes, we are still too Americanized in my opinion.

I do tip my hat to Paul Martin for taking a very good stand against Bush about the soft-wood lumber thing.

Remember municipal politicains, in Canada, really don't have the powers to make many changes like other mayors around the world do:(

Toronto has alway's been traditionally and historically a conservative, uptight, anal city!

This liquor license removal, from The Docks is no suprise to me.

Maybe it's time to restart I-Dance for those who remember.

Just read any of Earnest Hemmingways writings on Toronto. Alot of what he said still remains true today.

I hope that everyone pissed off never supports a ban of convenience ever again such as smoking and pitbulls etc...

this was done by people who have absolutely no interest in nightclubs just as some of you have no interest in dog ownership or smoking.

If we allow this kind of thinking to pervade, it will continue to come back and bite us in the ass. This is what i talk about when i mention "the big picture" in all my arguements.

...Danny T's return to 270 Spadina is inevitable.

He has stated that it was one of his favourite rooms EVER to play in. Due to problems with previous management/owners, he refused to come back. But as we all know, things have changed at 270 (now Sonic), with new ownership (including Project Orange who has brought Danny in the past to the Docks). So.... its definately a possiblility.

;)

p.s. - Danny T @ the Guv = not a chance in hell.

pps. - it would be a shame if our city lost The Docks.....

and that was alot to do with soundsystem and other factors.....

The cover charge was $50 in advance, and it had nothing to do with the soundsystem. The two factors were....

a.) it was Canada Day (bigger cover for parties on holidays)
b.) it was Danny T. (he dont come cheap)

I am aware of him playing Boa - but I have also seen that the hype over the new space is not near what it had been previously

I think after New Years, this statement is more false than the teeth in grandpappy's mouth.

OK folks - I know you all love rumours but I want to give the straight goods here. Over the past year the Docks has been involved in hearings with regard to its license. While those hearings have now concluded and a recomendation has been made, its only a recomendation. There is a whole legal and appeal process ahead that could take months, if not years to complete. During this time, The Docks is allowed to operate as normal. That means it HAS NOT LOST ITS LICENSE TO SELL ALCOHOL and may never lose it - its just one battle in a long war.

As you know, we rent the facility for a number of our Destiny events so I do have a conduit for the straight facts and these are them.

haha, I-Dance... I met Olivia Chow there a few years ago and she was really sullen. But she was a positive ball of energy at my door this past weekend, and I reminder her of meeting her at I-Dance and mentioned she still keeps in touch with William Chang (is that his name... can't remember).

Which of Hemmingway's writings are you referring to? I would love to pick them up or read them online! I'm a big reader.

Good! Well now you know that everyone is on your side! I say we fight these bastards tooth and nail and that i go and slap my sources upside the head.

LOL

How would they feel about forming a clubbing lobby group of both club owners and patrons? Its time to put the squeeze the other way.
