Denon TTs: How good are they?

| Hi people, I've long ago made up my mind to purchase a pair of decent turntables for bedroom spinning, but have been absolutely perplexed as to how many choices there are in the market today. I know everyone will be telling me to get technics, but I'm currently restricted by budget and cannot afford such a luxuary.. maybe a few years later, but not now. I live in a country where locating a shop that sells turntables are about as tough as getting a cat to bark, so I'm only left with Stanton, Vestax (still too expensive!) and Denon options. Stanton TTs doesn't really turn me on (they're for scratchers, ain't it? and I hate straight tone arms), so I was wondering if the DPDJ 101 or 105 is a viable alternative. Gurus, what are the advantages or disadvantages of such an investment? Is Denon more renowned for their mixers and amp systems than for producing decent turntables? Hellpp! |

A friend has the Denon 101's and seriously.. they are a piece of .
The motor isnt as strong as it could be and it looks very plain.
I'd rather get the Gemini PT-2410 for the same price for a 101. Or i'd definatley get the new Gemini PDT-6000 which is a digital TT and is the world's first TT to have master tempo..! :D |

| What about the Denon DP DJ151? I'm pretty interested in that one as well.. Gemini's gonna be hard to find in my country, although I'd really love to give it a go. |

| Why don't you try speaking to the djs in your country about where they could suggest you go looking for the turntables. It's funny a friend of mine in Aus bought a pair of Technics from Singapore because he says that's where the factory of Technics is .. something like that. Here in Thailand it definitely is much harder to get the equipment and records than out there..we're a developin country (i'm sure that's a main reason!). Anyway, have you tried Simlim ? There are few music equipment stores there.. it's a one time investment so make sure you'd be happy with what you're getting. Good luck. |

| Yeah thanks for the suggestion I know I could get Technics in Singapore but it's way off budget for me I was thinking more in the line of getting a decent pair for me to familiarise myself with beat matching and basic mixing before I venture into more expensive setups. Yeah I've tried the Sim Lim Square building but they sell mostly other electronic and Personal Computing products so I think only specialty stores spread around the country will carry turntables. Anyone from Singapore willing to help me out? |

yeah.. Sim Lim Square had some TT's and Pioneer equipment last time i went.. but i think they would cost a bit more than DJ stores..
uhhh.. i remember one DJ store in Sg.. but i forgot what its called..
maybe go to Zouk and see if a DJ store sponsors them..? :D
lol
btw..
did you go see Ferry Corsten in Sentosa? My friend had VIP ticks and got to see him man! |

| Yeah I think it's called ProAudio Sports Shop or something, it's now located in the Heeren above HMV, but it's way too expensive, the stuff they have in there. They mainly sell Stanton, though, and cater to the main stream of scratch Djs quite unlike us. The only other shop I've located in Singapore is Denon near Selegie Complex, so that's the reason for my interest in the DP DJ151. Now I'm stuck with no turntable and no clues.. |

| And nop I didn't manage to catch Ferry Corsten at Sentosa, although I'd have loved to go. I'm sure it was a cracker. |

| well, if its that hard to find then u might have to go online and check if they ship to your country (international shipping might be a tad expensive) but if you are gonna buy TT's just for practice and plan on buying good ones later, get sh!tty TT's and save your money for better ones later.... people always say that the more manual your tables are the more you'll learn. |
