Okay so I wasn't going to post this story, but after seeing this I feel I need to.
I met Tiesto on Saturday when flying from MIA to LAX. I was walking to my gate and when I looked down I saw him on the phone and said:
Me: Tiesto..?
Tiesto: *looks up* Yeah! *Shakes my hand*
Me: Where are you going?
Tiesto: Los Angeles
Me: Cool, so I guess I'll see you on the plane then?
Tiesto: Yeah! I'm on the phone now though so..
Me: Okay, carry on. I'll see you on the plane.
Tiesto: Okay.
So as I'm walking through first class, Tiesto notices me, smiles and gives me a thumbs up.
Me: Hey, can you sign my headphones when we get to LA?
Tiesto: Sure
Me: Awesome, can you wait for me at the gate?
Tiesto: Okay.
So I slowly make my way to my seat and basically for 5 hours stare out the window praying the plane doesn't crash. Once the plane finally landed I went to look for him, we ended up at the baggage claim thingy and talked about everything from the weather to trance for about 20-30 minutes. One thing that really stuck was when I asked him about Sasha - Belfunk (Matthew Dekay Mix) and told him I really liked it, he told me that he had also been playing a Leama & Moor song that was remixed by Matthew Dekay. I wasn't sure what the song was so he basically danced and sang the breakdown of song so that I could recognize it, this was totally great because it showed me he still had the passion for the music. You really can't do that unless you care. The song was Leama & Moor - Everything Matters (Matthew Dekay Remix) by the way.
Anyway so after he found his luggage I asked him if I could take a picture with him and he said yes and then that was that. He went to get his car to go wherever he was going.
So I hope this lets you guys see that he may not be all that bad after all. |
that's pretty cool dude. i guess its all about the situation |

Probably...he could have been kinda drunk and didn't wanna be bothered (Blowfish Sushi has awesome Apple Martinis...i got ed tanked on 2!). Or maybe he didn't want you to cockblock him, or maybe something was wrong with his tempura california roll. Coulda been anything :p |

| To each their own. If he wants to go out and have a private birthday party (I assume he was in the back room at Blowfish), then thats his business. I respect artists who stick around and chat after their shows, ,but also understand that artists want to chill out without having to deal with autographs and pictures. |

| It just comes with the territory, celeberties can be fickle, you just have to catch them in the right time and place. From personal exp. I notice some DJ's are far more approachable than others. For exp. Ferry and Armin are more accessible than PVD and Tiesto. The sad thing is when they loose sight of what got them there in the first place. Its fans like you and me that help them achieve there success. Bite the hand that feeds you...see what happens! I just hope Tiesto's not like that all the time! |

I've had plenty of opportunities to really annoy the hell out of Tiesto but i just didn't take them, and i think i earned more respect that way than jumping in his face asking for photographs.
Case: December 2004
Washington Dulles Airport:
Tiesto had been stranded at the airport for 9 hours waiting for a connection from his gig in Charlotte to Montreal... Flying from Netherlands, I arrived and had a further 2hrs wait before they made 1 flight to Montreal that day (bad snow conditions!)
Point is... without knowing the above details of Tijs' day beforehand, I could've run over and asked him to sign everything in my possession... but one quick THOUGHT before acting made me and my Dutch buddy think twice about approaching him at an airport terminal.
Result: Respect earned. He saw us... his face dropped expecting some fan reaction! - but we never bothered him.
Case: 2 weeks later
ICE, Las Vegas
On another flying trip from Holland, Tiesto recognises our faces around the booth and proceeds to offer us a request or two including Yahel - Voyage.
Result: Respect earned, we were able to approach him.
Case: 1 year later - 04-11-05
Bratislava Airport
I am waiting for my Dutch buddy at the terminal ready for Tiesto in Slovakia, and Tijs is on the same flight. They're able to have a conversation on the flight, and at the arrivals terminal Tijs walks over remembers who we are and chats with my g/f about what to expect from Slovak crowd.
Conclusion: Treat him like a human being and he might just do the same back to you! :p |
