I've been on Kingsway the past year since I was dropped from RBC for having 3 tickets and been deemed a 'high risk driver'. Well, 1 has been dropped off my record this month, so technically I can switch to a normal carrier now. Thing is, I have 2 court dates for tickets I received coming up in Feb & Mar. One I should be able to win in court, the other I gotta pray that the guy doesn't show up (minor speeding).
So my ? is this- can I shop around for a new company, and am I supposed to tell them of these 2 pending tickets, if they're not convictions yet? The other tickets would take 2.5 yrs b4 they're dropped, if convicted. Maybe I could repeatedly postpone the speeding one for the next 2 yrs, cuz that guy was kinda old anyways, and maybe by then he'll retire? ;)
Say I am able to sign up for a normal insurance company, I'd hate to be dropped w/in a couple months cuz I get convicted again. What do I do? |

| The ANNOYING thing about PC insurance is that if you've ever been dropped by your insurance company, you have to fill out a form and MAIL it to them, and then wait 15 days to hear back from them. Who has that kinda time??? |

are there no auto insurance brokers out there that'll search various providers for the best premium ?

The problem is that the "best premium" is not always the best insurance for the consumer.
Who wants cheap insurance when the insurance company makes it difficult to file claims? Who wants cheap insurance when the fine print is so detailed that the complete terms of insurance are difficult to determine? Who wants cheap insurance when the insurance company is inflexible?
Self-serve insurance = caveat emptor.
Like anything else - with insurance you get what you pay for. |

Any broker will search for the lowest rate for you but you have to remember that brokers only deal with certain insurance companies so they will only go to the companies they deal with. |

For some people, the best premium is the best insurance, particularly if those people are paying more for insurance than they are for the car. Most drivers under 25 will pay out more in premiums than they would ever have to pay if they totalled the car. Also, most insurers will raise the premiums if a claim is filed (or at least that is what the clients believe) so people will avoid doing so when financially possible.
I think the rules change when insurance is mandatory. If the industry were truly competitive it would be a different story, but from what I've seen, almost all insurers make it equally difficult to file a claim.
(This isn't meant to be an "insurance companies are evil" post - I'm just pointing out the state of the industry here.) |
